They could've made enough cap room by moving Hartnell, Carle and Versteeg. I guess Versteeg is getting moved too. Wouldn't be surprised to see them make a big push for Brad Richards, but I can't imagine any player will be too excited to sign in Philly after what they did to Richards and Carter. I've never seen anything like it.

Aside from the fact that such deals clearly hurt the reputation of the already-not-so-salient Paul Holmgren, trading the Captain Richards as opposed to the inconsistent walking bad contract known as Daniel Briere was ill-advised. Courtier will fix their issues at Center when he is ready, as will Braydon Schenn. Laviolette will have to spend a great deal of the summer in front of the drawing board, though.

Jeff Carter's time in Philadelphia will forever be remembered for one ostentation after another. The situation with Scott Hartnell, as well as the childish frat boy mentality, really hurt his reputation. He will boost Nash's assist totals to over 50, however.

essentially the flyers came to the realization they could win, but not "win" with what they had.

however, they are now faster, yet much smaller down the middle. however, on the backend it leaves one to wonder, pronger and timonen are spring chickens. but if you look down the middle at giroux/briere/schenn you have to like that. still have to sign simmonds. next summer likewise should be interesting with voracek and jvr as rfas.

gutsy move, i believe it makes them not as good this year, but better 2-3 years out as they now are afforded flexibility by removing two lifer contracts. hard to say on the whole as i think the window is closing with the two elderstatesmen on the backend anchoring the blueline.

It is very interesting.. Carter and Richards both traded and most fans are happy.... you don't see that a lot in Philly sports where two players in their prime are not missed.

It's all about the goalie and defense on the Flyers now...

Unless they find a way to get Stamkos.

First two games, a shutout and a one goal win. Looking good in the goal tending department. Jagr and Giroux are showing some glimpses of being a great line pairing. Its a bit soon but maybe Holmgren finally pieced together a team with some chemistry.

They never really got on track this season. Started off poor & had a decent run of playing well, but then completely regressed. Bryz has just been hung out to dry by some poor defense. He's gotten no help at all from his team whatsoever & it's shown in some bad scorelines. It seems like everything hinges on Giroux & Voracek scoring. The second line especially has been getting owned game in, game out. Hard to do well when you can't get any secondary scoring outside of your first line guys. Wayne Simmonds is going to give you everything he's got on a daily basis. He's just that type of player. I think he believes he has something to prove & that drives him to give it his all whenever he plays. I would take him on my team any day.
