PG Mike Conley (1st Team All BIG, NBA All-Star, Oscar Winner, Minnesota Timberwolves)

incredible player to say the least. tough to tell though who is better between him and Ty Lawson of UNC. Although Lawson reminds me an awful lot of ray felton who was probably one of my favorite pg's to ever watch play college ball. Lawson has the physical prowess over conley, but mike plays the game with such smoothness and fluidity, hes going to be a special player here without question.

Sorry but Lawson may have the quicks, but I think that is about all he has over Conley...

This is a no-brainer IMO...

If "physical prowess" stops at the neckline, then I might agree. But a point needs to have court awareness and smarts, and in that criterion Conley has it all over Lawson. I have never been more impressed with the mental game of a player; MC Jr. is right up there with Magic, Bird and Jordan in that metric IMO.

whoa whoa whoa lets not get ahead of ourselves here, he hasnt even played an entire season in college basketball and ur comparing him to magic, bird and jordan ? three of the all time greatest basketball players EVER !? thats pushing it in my book, but i can get what ur saying that he has a high basketball IQ and he has the ability to be a special player. just take off the osu hat for a second ( not taking anything away from conley, i think he is incredible and hes one of my favorites) but just watch ty lawson run the PG for carolina, way more fast paced team, higher tempo and movement. its really tough for me to decide who is better, even though i have the bias of being an osu fan. i think both players are doing an incredible job at running there teams as true freshman.

I was commenting upon ONLY ONE ELEMENT of hoop excellence. So yes, comparing him in that ONE ELEMENT seems warranted.

Chill, buddy.

gotcha, but i mean sometimes u have to look past the fact u have a slight biased towards your own team. i dont think theres anyway for certain you can say conley is as good as ty lawson and vice versa. both are true frosh pg's who have their teams in the top 5 nationally week in week out, that alone is pretty remarakable for the both of them to accomplish. im not trying to knock on conley at all i think hes a fantastic player and i wouldnt want anyone else running the point for us, i just think ty lawson is an excellent player as well and that i dont think anyone with certainty could say conley is a better player. regardless of all this nonsense they've both done incredible jobs at putting there teams in the hunt for the national championship in there very first year.

Congrats to Mike Conley, Jr. for being named co-Big Ten Basketball Player of the Week.

official.site

Feb. 12, 2007
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Mike Conley Jr., the Big Ten's leader in assists, steals and assist-to-turnover ratio, earned co-Big Ten player of the week honors after he led Ohio State to a pair of home wins last week to remain unbeaten at home (16-0) and tied for the top spot in Big Ten Conference play with a 10-1 record. Conley, a freshman point guard from Indianapolis, averaged 18.5 points and five assists while connecting on 61 percent of his shots from the field, 75 percent of his 3-point attempts and 86 percent of his foul shots. He scored a career-high 23 points in the win over Michigan (Feb. 6) while making 9-of-12 shots from the field and handing out six assists with just one turnover. He shares the award with Wisconsin senior forward Alando Tucker.

Cont'd ...

Hey if you take Conley right now against Magic, Bird and Jordan at this same time in their careers, I might take Conley's overall game against any of them. Its a fair assessment. Magic may be the one that is overall the best due to his rebounding ability, but at 6'9" you'll have that.
