Five-star PG DJ Carton commits to Ohio State

Ohio State picked up their top point guard target on Saturday, as five-tar recruit DJ Carton pledged to Chris Holtmann.

“I got that gut feeling,” Carton told 247Sports. “That’s what it came down to.”

"It actually hit me on my way home," he added. "It hit me just being there. The team, I felt like apart of the family. I just came so close with those guys in a short amount of time. I was close with the coaching staff, they have a big future. I feel like overall the relationship was there. I just got that gut feeling in my stomach that it was the place for me."

"The one thing that really separated it out was the relationship with the players," he added. "My relationship with them was just different. Like I said, I felt like I was already apart of the team. They brought me in. I feel like I can be myself around them. It came down to that. The other two schools had everything I liked, and it was a really hard decision, but it came down to that."

Wow, just wow. Completely floored by this commitment, seriously did not expect this coming. I, along with most in this thread, had wrote him off to scUM. Carton is an absolutely critical piece of this class for a bunch of reasons but off the top of my head, obviously a position of need and having him and Gaffney in will inevitably lead to some other big pickups. Combine this class with the one we just brought in and I'm going to get my popcorn watching them play under CH.

Speaking of CH, he has pulled off 2 miracles now. The first being what he did with the existing team he inherited this year, the second being essentially flipping Carton out of nowhere with one visit. I like the Holtmann guy, we should keep him.

A huge congrats to DJ joining Buckeye nation. Seeing these types of commitments is getting me very excited for basketball season.

I like how Holtmann is going after his type of player no matter the ranking, takes the sting out of not getting Jerimiah Francis. I had a good feeling about DJ Carton for a while now and when I heard that he was visiting my excitement sky rocketed because I just knew that Hotmann wasn't going to let this kid get away, and if he was as solid on ttun as everyone thought he was I think he might have ended his recruitment already, the kid wanted to see what OSU had to offer so I knew the interest was real, couple that with the fact that he and Gaffney are pretty good friends...yea I was feeling pretty good about the chances but never would have imagined he would decide right on the heels of his visit. Excellent pickup for Holtman Scharge and the staff.
