No. 23 NC State scores fewest points by a ranked team in shot clock era
The Wolfpack scored the fewest points by a ranked team in the shot clock era in a 47-24 loss to the No. 12 Hokies after shooting 16.7 percent from the field -- the Wolfpack's lowest field-goal percentage in school history, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
NC State didn't hit double-digits until Jericole Hellems' basket with 5:40 left in the first half, which stunningly trimmed Virginia Tech's lead to two points. C.J. Bryce brought the Wolfpack to 19 points with 18:35 remaining in the game, but they didn't make another field goal for nearly 12 minutes. The Wolfpack made three shots in the second half.
After not scoring fewer than 15 points in a half in the past 10 seasons, per ESPN Stats & Information, NC State was held below 15 points in both halves.
The Wolfpack's starting backcourt of Markell Johnson and Braxton Beverly combined to shoot 0-for-17 from the field.

Out of Virginia’s Hargrave Military Academy, Beverly joined Kaleb Wesson as the second member of Ohio State’s 2017 recruiting class. Because of Matta’s firing, though, Beverly was given his release from the university shortly after enrolling. Less than a month later, he transferred to North Carolina State where he planned to continue his basketball career later that year.
After an uproar caused by the NCAA’s declaration of Beverly’s ineligibility stemming from him attending a summer class at Ohio State, he was given immediate eligibility. He quickly became a key piece of the Wolfpack, starting 73-of-98 games the past three years. At North Carolina State, the 5-foot-11 point guard has averaged 8.7 points, 2.5 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 28.9 minutes per game.

Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.
Braxton Beverly's career is over with the Wolfpack, but he'll play the final year of his eligibility closer to home. The senior guard will rejoin former NC State assistant and Hargrave coach A.W. Hamilton at Eastern Kentucky during his fifth season at the college level.
