PF Lee Aaliya (Official Thread)

Not a traditional post presence at all IMO. Looks to me a little bit like Devin Royal with slightly more length and athleticism, but less strength. I think they did want someone who could fill the role Royal was supposed to fill but didn't seem to want to - combo forward who can fill in as small ball C at times. He is likely similar to Bynum size- and role-wise, although a touch smaller.

Supposedly the NCAA has to decide his eligibility still - the number of years he can play in college will likely be shortened due to his pro experience. Jelavic, for example, lost 1 year of eligibility.

Maybe I’m not looking in the right places but there is no where that says this guy averaged 16 and 9 in Spain’s top Liga.

He played for a team that competes in that league but only made the squad/participated in 2 games - when they were playing in the much smaller Europe Cup (B squad basically).

He had 14 pts, 12 reb in one game. Then 4 pts, 2 reb the other vs some low level teams.

His most prominent playing time is 49 games in the Argentinian League (2024/25) where he averaged 7 and 3.

Seems like the Buckeye beat is hyping this up but it’s just another body to me.

Sorry, but I don’t think guys that average 18 (or 16 or whatever numbers reporters want to throw out) and 9 in Spain end up as a 15th roster spot in college.

SofaScore is another usually reliable source for international sports (soccer, basketball, tennis) and tells a similar story on his player profile.

Happy to be wrong but I need to see some citations/sources from these reporters that seem to be playing a game of telephone.

Triple post but I figured it out, by doing this thing called “research”. He was on the Murcia U22 team and played in the Spain U22 youth league. Not their top division team.

Bit disengenous and flat wrong to say he was doing anything in a “top Euro league”. More like a Spanish college league.

Anyway, some highlights look impressive. Looking forward to what he brings.

Sadly, typical lack of in-depth research by these beat types.
