Sullinger Vows He’s Coming Back After Tough Loss

NEWARK, N.J. — Jared Sullinger wasn’t the first Ohio State underclassman to face questions about his future after a tough loss in the NCAA Tournament, but the young freshman handled his business like a man.

“I’m going to be here, in an Ohio State uniform next year,” a somber Sullinger said sitting in the locker room after the Buckeyes’ 62-60 loss to Kentucky in the Sweet 16.

mcbucks deserves the long term "called-it-way-back-when-award." And if you are going to be 6'6 or 6'9 you better be quick and able to jump through the roof. Sully works hard on position and his strength usually gets him into position, but last night, against someone with a similar skill set and size, his game suffered. When added to the team's failure to hit threes -- or twos -- to open the center for him he seemed to me to start trying to force things. Oh and let's not ignore Kentucky's ability to block at least 11 shots last night. Clearly they "played taller" than buckeyes did .

Ah well, Sully certainly played hard, he's only a freshman and it seems like he comes from a grounded family. Thanks for lots of great moments this season.

Dude. He went for 21 and 16 and shot 50% from the floor. Jared Sullinger is not the reason Ohio State lost this game. Jared Sullinger is one of the 5 best players in the country, conservatively.

:lol: No, he doesn't deserve that whatsoever. I can't think of a worse idea than transforming Sullinger from an rare, agile dumptruck into a thin, dime a dozen lighter slasher. He had the "dime a dozen" comment completely backwards.

Sure he could benefit greatly from shedding 30 lbs and adding 10-15 of good weight, but that doesn't mean he should lose what makes him special. He just needs a small tweak, some of which will occur naturally as he matures physically from a boy into a man.

He did that all game, timing his jumps perfectly to sky over guys with better verticals to corral rebounds.

You are confusing his post game struggles against a fellow massive big man (who got away with a ton of contact) with his jump timing and skill (which compensates beautifully for a lack of jumping ability).

His height wasn't his problem.

We've been spoiled with elite freshmen who don't show their age (Oden, Conley, Sullinger much of the year, Craft, etc). He had some freshmen moments last night, like his last shot of the game.

Sullinger plays for whistles and has to learn to adjust his game when the refs aren't going for it.

Actually he played quite well in the second half and really slowed Harrelson down after a one sided first half.

Didn't say Sullinger was the reason we lost. But he certainly did not dominate the game last night the way he has other games -- the reason? as I stated he ran up against someone who could fight him for position - to which I'll add that KY did not need to double team him. That left them free to attack our outside shooters. Proof? They were able to block at least 11 shots and hurry others, that Diebler was the only one who could hit the three -- and he only shot what? three of them...

Maybe, though I have no idea what that phrase means, so I'll assume it's akin to asking if we're in some strange wasteland where madness runs rampant.

Otherwise I can't imagine why "turn Sullinger into a slasher instead of a post man" deserves props.

He had that same problem in the middle of the big ten season for quite awhile, and many of those games were against guys without the size and skill of Harrelson. He's a freshmen and will learn from those growing pains.
