Former Ohio State forward EJ Liddell has signed a new three-year, $6.2 million contract with the New Orleans Pelicans with a team option for the final year. Liddell, who was selected by the Pelicans in the second round, the 41st overall pick, in the 2022 NBA Draft, missed his entire rookie season due to an ACL tear in his second Summer League game.

FORMER OHIO STATE FORWARD E.J. LIDDELL TRADED TO ATLANTA HAWKS​

E.J. Liddell's NBA career will continue in Atlanta.

The former Ohio State forward was dealt from the New Orleans Pelicans alongside center Larry Nance Jr., guard Dyson Daniels and two draft picks for star Hawks guard Dejounte Murray on Friday.

Liddell's career has struggled to get off the ground since the Pelicans selected him with the 41st overall pick in the second round of the 2022 NBA draft. He suffered a torn ACL that eliminated his entire rookie year in 2022-23 and played just eight games in 2023-24, seeing 23 total minutes of action with four total points and five rebounds.

There was some success for Liddell in the G League, however, as he averaged 17.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 26 games with the Birmingham Squadron.

He seemed to have some momentum going into his rookie year, but that injury all but wiped that out. It's going to be very difficult for him to keep a spot in the league, but Atlanta is a better spot for that redemption than New Orleans was.
