PF/C Kosta Koufos (CSKA Moscow)

Looks like I was pretty close...

I was just going to find that post actually and saw that JO had already posted it...

I am with Junkie that the expectations were too high for the team as a whole and I still believe that they were not that bad...If Jamar wouldn't of had his bad stretch thru the middle of the season and Matta would of gave a little time to PJ Hill like he did against Purdue to give butler a rest...

We obviously lost games we shouldn't have when we were dealing with confidence issues...

Also I thought overall we got the numbers I thought we would get from everyone except Lighty and Diebler...

The only things that didn't go like I figured they would were Lighty putting up 10pts/game...Think he struggled some with the slow down game which I didn't see happening, but had to happen due to lack of depth...and also I expected a little more from Diebler like most of us did, but he struggled shooting the ball which no one saw coming...

I will be very interested in seeing if KK declares himself after this season is over or if he decides to come back next year. I wonder if there is any possibility he forgoes both college and the NBA and plays over in Greece. Personally, I think it would be a big mistake on his part if he declares. The NBA, as Junkie has stated, drafts on potential but I think KK would end up sitting on the bench for quite a few seasons if he goes after one year.

I think the expectations we put on him for this season were way too high. He denominated in high school but there is a big difference when you get to this level for a guy who is 7' unless you are a very good athlete like GO. I think those are the only types of centers who can come right from high school to college and have a major impact. KK has skills but he is not very athletic.

A good friend of hangs out with Kosta once every few weeks. He heard Kosta say in conversation that he is planning on leaving for the pros. (He heard this a couple week ago.)

I would love to see Kosta back in the scarlet and gray, but I'd understand if he were to go pro. Best wishes to him whatever decision he makes.

I have been unreasonably critical of Koufos this season. I guess it's easy to expect too much of a 7-footer with the kind of mobility and athletic skill he has. But it just isn't that easy to play big-time collegiate hoop, even if you're darned good.

Kostas next step

Hello everybody,

I was disappointed to see Buckeyes go down against Michigan on Friday.
The game was broadcasted in Greece also (i am sure you didn?t know that...) but most Buckeye games are. What I have realiased throughout the season regarding the Buckeye game is that it is really hard for Kosta to play 1v1 down low.
The first reason for that being the defense played by the other teams i.e. the 2-3 zone.
The second reason being that Kostas never really got the ball too much in the low post.
The third reason being that the pace of the game of the NCAA is clearly not for Kostas.
I strongly believe that if Kostas was to play in a more European style of play (in Europe or a team like the Spurs, Raptors) he would score no less than 20 points and 10 rebs.
I also think that Kostas needs to develop his high post play not high post shooting but high post passing and driving to the hoop.
In the NCAA footwork is key and for a 7ft1 guy it is really hard to keep up with faster more athletic centers/forwards.
Regarding Kostas future I think it is not in Kostas mentality to give up and move to NBA or Europe.
I think he should participate in the National team pre Olympic tournament in June/July do well , then make it to the Olympic team and then go back to College. Of what I know Panathinaikos the biggest basketball club in Greece offered him 5 million euro (7.5m $) for 3 years last summer and Kostas turn that down (thats what the papers said over here).
I dont think he would come to Greece for that money but lets see what happens... I think Kostas can really do well in the NBA even better than Oden!
