GlenOak's Koufos to play in Jordan all-star game
Thursday, February 1, 2007
CHRIS BEAVEN

National honors have begun to roll in for GlenOak senior Kosta Koufos. The 7-foot-2 center has been named to the 2007 Jordan Brand All-American Team. The 20-player team will be featured in the Jordan Brand All-American Classic on April 21 at Madison Square Garden. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
"It's the top prospects in the nation, and I'm just glad to get to play with such great talent," Koufos said after practice Wednesday. "Basketball is the sport I love to play. And just having the honor to play in the Jordan Classic game is icing on the cake."

GlenOak center leads Eagles against Hoover
Friday, February 2, 2007
By JOSH WEIR repository sports writer

It's a big game on the surface. Look deeper and it gets bigger.
There hasn't been an adult ticket available since Wednesday morning for tonight's boys high school basketball game between North Canton Hoover and GlenOak, ranked eighth and 13th, respectively, in Ohio's Division I Associated Press poll.
The game has major Federal League and district ramifications. But it's also about two communities practically intertwined with each other. It's about two teams with different styles, one a blend of shooting, passing and pressure defense, and the other a once-in-a-generation talent surrounded by an improving supporting cast.
The soldout crowd at GlenOak should have a special night of basketball in store.
Even with all the side stories, the Golden Eagles' 7-foot-2 senior Kosta Koufos looms over this game like a skyscraper in suburbia.
"He's the best big man, I think, in the history of Stark County," said Hoover coach Randy Montgomery, who is not known for superlatives. "He's very skilled, has very few weaknesses. (Ohio State Head Coach) Thad Matta told me personally that he'd be starting if he were there right now."

I heard this guy at the local YMCA the other night who just watched B.J. Mullens play in person and he said "he would be starting for OSU RIGHT NOW!!" :slappy:

I love small town people who rarely get to see good talent play and when they do, think they're watching the first pick in the draft. :slappy:

They're talking about B.J. Mullens all the way over in Rhode Island? What are they saying about Kosta?

Haha.. Hard to imagine where'd Thad would place him in the starting lineup right now... unless your YMCA 'insider' was thinking of something like Shaq and Stanley Roberts at LSU or Dikembe and Mourning at G'town.

That's alright though, you have to love positive support from local fans.

ive seen kof on tv never in person. honestly its a stretch to say anyone would start right now. koufos is college ready. mullens can play and is college ready, thier impact as frosh? to be determined... great players, with great futures, but kids that need to continue to work and improve everyday. granted i say the same thing about every kid on the floor in every game thread...

Because it really matters that he's white... :roll1:

First of all, a triple-double against Mckinley there, falls in the with the Lebron James game stories
You must have never played there or didn't put together that Mckinley is always one of the top teams in canton/akron area every year and for that to be done is just amazing
