Personal pref. - run up the stats v/s 2nd string PT

For all the reasons others have said, I would put 'em in there. Every Buckeye team member came to Ohio State with a dream to play in the 'Shoe and make a contribution in front of that crowd. Nothing so motivates a team and builds unity as getting a lot of people on the field. People practice harder, feel greater self-esteem, and its a win-win all around.

I would make sure that my margin of victory beat the computer models so that the getting people on the field did not keep us from getting into the NC game. But that usually isn't a problem.

Give the guys a chance to strut their stuff!

Rational side and then...

Rational side of me agrees with everyone else.

But after last year, I'd kind of like to beat PSU by at least 21 this year. Although, with Texas, I would like to win any way we can. With PSU, I feel the need to exact some revenge and punish them.

Man that was a hard fought game last year.

What a boring argument. It isn't any fun when everyone takes the same side. We need someone to root for running up the score. Anyone? Anyone?

Ok, fine. I'll take a crack at it:

What's the point of putting in second-stringers? It's not like they're ever going to play. Tomorrow never comes, and injuries never happen to the first-string guys. Besides, running it up makes all the fans want to be fans of your team. I know that after the 1994 game in Penn State, I was edging ever so close to becoming a Penn State fan. And what is this "bad blood" I've heard about? If your team gets blown out, it isn't because the other team is a bunch of jerks - it's because you never should have stepped foot on the field with them.

By the way, Steve Spurrier is an OK guy, in my opinion.

Get the backups playing time. There is no point in running up the score, not to mention Tress would never do it.

Exactly. I really hope Boeckman and Schoenhoft have an opportunity to play significant minutes this fall. Zwick obviously deserves to play some but at the end of one sided games I'd rather see Todd and Robbie out there. Getting the young guys experience in actual games will help immensely going into the 2007 season.

I agree with everyone on getting the back ups in early. Running up the score also is classless, makes enemies, and has a way of coming back to bite you. I'd rather not have that associated with the program.

QB is a position that hopefully Boeckman and Schoenhoft can get some decent reps in garbage time. I think the trick will be getting this guy playing time behind Zwick and just trying to find some pt for 2 more QBs. Going into 07 even a couple series in garbage time would help these guys.

Curtain teams you can blow out

1. Michigan
2. Notre Dame
3. USC
4. Miami (FL.)

When and if any of those teams show up on the sched. I think Jimmy T. should really shoot for just destroying them, 21,35,42 point on any of those teams won't bother me.

Now, when were 20 up on NIU, I think that its time to give Smith, Ginn, and Pitt a breather no sense in Injury or even spending all there energy on a "won" game, call the off the dogs the hunt is over.

I'd love to see what those Backups can do

If the opposing team is wearing is wearing gay maize pants, blue jerseys and whatever the goofy design is on their helmets... Run it up to 42 with the starters, 77 with the 2nd team, 105 with the 3rd stringers, 119 with the prep team, and 147 with anyone in the stands thats wants to show what they are made of. Other than that, no reason to run up the score.

You always want to get the backups experience-you never know when an injury will force them into the spotlight. That said, let the backups use and become familiar w/ the entire playbook-it is not fair to them to call FB dives for the entire quarter-if the other team cannot stop the backups that is their problem-not Tressel's.
The one exception I would give is if Pittman had 175 or so yards going into the 4th-let him crack 200 yards and then pull him.
