Shuck got the start and pitched 7 great innings. 1 ER on 3 hits. 6 K's, 1 BB.

The bats came alive and the Bucks won 4-1.

Only one error, with 2 out in the 9th, that allowed a run to later score.

Barker pitched the 8th, Meister closed it out.

Mizzou started a freshmen pitcher too, so that may have helped the Bucks' offense come alive.

1-2 is a good enough start. It'll be interesting to see who else is in contention for a starting spot on the mound. 1B still looks up in the air too as three different guys started the three games.

I think it was a good thing for us to get a win there.

We didnt play all that bad for our first 3 games. We had soem stupid errors, but hopefully we can cut down on them as we did against Mizzou.

Crazybuck.........most, if not all, of their practicing has been indoors so far. The Bucks have a new indoor facility for pitching and batting practice. I believe they also use the Woody for fielding practice. The three road trips and 16 games they play in Florida are about the only outdoor "practice" they get before their home opener on 03/29.

Catcher Eric Fryer gave the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead with a home run in the top of the first inning against Wake Forest.

Feb. 24, 2006
Box Score
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Wake Forest first baseman Allan Dykstra hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning as the Demon Deacons cruised to a 6-2 victory over Ohio State Friday in the Buckeyes' season opener at the Pepsi Baseball Classic at the University of Florida's McKethan Stadium in Gainesville, Fla.
Eric Fryer (So., Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) had given the Buckeyes an early 1-0 lead on a home run over the right-field fence in the top of the first inning off Wake Forest starter Garrett Bullock. It could have been a two-run shot, but Jacob Howell (Jr., Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) was picked off at first base one batter earlier.
The OSU lead did not last long though as Dykstra took a 3-2 breaking ball up in the zone from Buckeye starter starter Dan DeLucia (Jr., Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) and deposited it over the right-field fence to give the Demon Deacons a 3-1 lead. DeLucia hit his first batter of the game, Eric Williams, before a sacrifice moved him to second. DeLucia walked Matt Antonelli to put runners at first and second for Dykstra. Williams delivered Wake's fourth run with a sac fly to right in the second inning, scoring Weldon Woodall, who reached on a throwing error by Ronnie Bourquin (Jr., Canton, Ohio/Canton South), the Buckeye third baseman.
Ohio State (0-1) managed to get one run back in the fourth inning to pull within, capitalizing on a one-out single up the middle by Bourquin. He moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a balk before scoring on a double up the middle by Jedidiah Stephen (Sr., Caldwell, Ohio/Shenandoah).

The Buckeyes had a chance for more runs in the eighth inning, but left the bases loaded. J.B. Shuck (Fr., Galion, Ohio/Galion) delivered a pinch hit up the middle. Matt Angle (So., Whitehall, Ohio/Whitehall-Yearling) followed with a single to right, but Shuck was thrown out trying to reach third base. Howell singled to right to prompt a second pitching change. Now facing Ben Hunter, Fryer drew a walk to load the bases but was hit by a hit ball by Bourquin and was out on the play, ending the inning.
The Demon Deacons (4-3) made the Buckeyes pay for their missed opportunity, putting two runs on the board in the bottom of the inning to build a 6-2 lead. Facing reliever Jake Hale (Fr., Albany, Ohio/Alexander), Andy Goff reached on the second throwing error of the game by Bourquin and then went to second on a bunt down the third base line by Casey Sterk. Catcher Dan Rosaia delivered both runners with a double down the right-field line. OSU closer Rory Meister (So., Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield Madison) came on to get Weldon Woodall to pop out to third.
The starting pitching got the decisions for each team. Bullock got his first win of the year (1-0), while DeLucia started the season with a loss (0-1). DeLucia allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and struck out four batters. Bullock struck out seven batters and allowed the two OSU runs on three hits. Hunter earned his second save of the season, pitching the final 1 1/3 innings.
The Buckeyes out-hit Wake Forest 6-5, but committed three errors in the first game of the season. Six different players accounted for the hits. Dykstra finished just 1-for-4, but his three-run homer was all the Deacs needed.
Ohio State will meet No. 1 Florida Saturday at 2 p.m. in a game televised by Sun Sports (available on some cable networks and satellite) before closing play at the Pepsi Baseball Classic vs. No. 12 Missouri Sunday at 10 a.m.

Box Score
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Top-ranked Florida took a 4-0 lead and then when Ohio State pulled within two runs in the top of the seventh, the Gators responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning on their way to a 10-3 victory Saturday at the Pepsi Baseball Classic at McKethan Stadium in Gainesville, Fla.
Ohio State avoided the shutout and closed within a 4-2 score in the top of the seventh. J.B. Shuck (Fr., Galion, Ohio/Galion) led off the inning with a single through the left side and then advanced two bases on a throwing error on Davis, the Gator shortstop. He scored on an infield single by Wes Schirtzinger (Jr., Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North). With two out, Jacob Howell (Jr., Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) scored Jason Zoeller (Jr., Verona, Pa./Shady Side Academy) with another infield single, this time to short.
But the Gators responded with a five-spot in the bottom half of the inning, getting RBI from third baseman David Cash and pinch hitter Greg Quatrino before a three-run home run by Adam Davis off reliever Matthew Selhorst (Fr., Westerville, Ohio/St. Charles). Florida added a run in the eighth and the Buckeyes used one of four Gator miscues to score a run in the ninth.
Gator starting pitcher Bryan Augenstein got his third win (3-0) of the season and struck out a career-high 10 batters before leaving with one out in the eighth inning. He walked only one batter and left after allowing his eighth hit.

Buckeye starter Cory Luebke (So., Maria Stein, Ohio/Marion Local) got off to a rough start, walking the first three batters of the game. He coaxed Gavin Dickey to ground into a double play, but lead-off batter Stephen Barton was able to score and give Florida the early 1-0 lead. Luebke struck out Brian Jeroloman to end the bottom of the first inning.
Ronnie Bourquin (Jr., Canton, Ohio/Canton South) gave Ohio State its first hit of the game - a double to left - to lead off the top of the second. Adam Schneider (Jr., Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura) reached on a throwing error, but Augenstein got his second and third strikeouts of the game to leave two Buckeyes on base.
Florida capitalized on a lead-off walk to start the fourth and turned it into its second run of the game thanks to a pair of Buckeye errors. Jeroloman moved Dickey, who drew the walk, to second with a sacrifice bunt. After a Luebke strikeout of Austin Pride, Cody Neer reached on a throwing error by shortstop Jedidiah Stephen (Sr., Caldwell, Ohio/Shenandoah). Dickey was able to score from second thanks to a throwing error by Shuck, the Buckeyes first baseman.
The Gators scored twice more in the bottom of the sixth off reliever Trey Fausnaugh (Jr., Circleville, Ohio/Westfall) to take a 4-0 lead. Pride led off the inning with a single to right and moved to second on a passed ball by Eric Fryer (So., Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg). David Cash singled to left-center to plate Pride. Matt Gaski singled through the left side to put runners at first and second for Barton, who drew a walk to load the bases and send Fausnaugh to the dugout. Josh Barrera (Fr., Somerset, Ohio/Sheridan) came in and caught Davis, an NCBWA preseason All-American, looking at strike three before walking Brian Leclerc for the second run of the inning.
Luebke (0-1), who walked only 17 batters during his entire freshman campaign a season ago, gave a free pass to five Gators and struck out two in his 4.1 innings. He allowed only two runs (one earned) on three hits. Bourquin finished 4-for-5 with three singles and a double. His four hits were a career high. Howell had two hits and one RBI. Schirtzinger also had an RBI.
For Florida (8-2), Cash and Gaski each went 3-for-5 with Cash knocking in a pair of runs. Davis made his lone hit, a three-run homer, count, capping a five-run inning that blew open the game. Florida pounded out 14 hits compared to nine by the Buckeyes. Each team had four errors.
Ohio State (0-2) will close play at the Pepsi Baseball Classic against No. 12 Missouri Sunday at 10 a.m.

Jedidiah Stephen led the Buckeyes in their upset of Missouri with a pair of doubles and a single.

Feb. 26, 2006
Box Score
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Shuck, a freshman from Galion, Ohio (Galion), who made his Buckeye debut Saturday as the starting first baseman vs. Florida, turned his first pitching start into his first collegiate victory (1-0). In his 7.0-inning outing, he allowed one run on three hits and struck out six batters with one walk in his first pitching start as a Buckeye.
Jedidiah Stephen (Sr., Caldwell, Ohio/Shenandoah) led the Buckeyes in going 3-for-4 Sunday. Matt Angle (So., Whitehall, Ohio/Whitehall-Yearling), Jacob Howell (Jr., Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) and Wes Schirtzinger (Jr., Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North) each had a pair of hits and one RBI.
In the top of the third inning, Missouri turned a lead-off infield hit by Derek Chambers into a 1-0 lead. Gary Arndt bunted him into scoring position and then Zane Taylor doubled to the left-field line to bring him home.
Ohio State scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to go on top 2-1. Jason Zoeller (Jr., Verona, Pa./Shady Side Academy) doubled down the left-field line with one out and then tied the game thanks to a pair of passed balls by Tiger catcher Jacob Priday. Josh Hula drew a walk and went to second on a single through the right side by Schirtzinger. A third passed ball moved both runners into scoring position. Angle flew out to center to score Hula on the sacrifice.
The Buckeyes got two more runs across the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning, getting RBI singles from Schirtzinger and Howell. Stephen led off the inning with a base hit to right field and then Zoeller reached on a fielder's choice. Josh Hula (Fr., Castalia, Ohio/Margaretta) singled through the right side, sending Zoeller to third before Schirtzinger singled to right-center field to go up 3-1. Angle's sacrifice bunt put runners and second and third and Howell's infield single to second gave Ohio State a three-run lead, 4-1.

Dan Barker (So., Dayton, Ohio/Northmont) came on in the eighth to relieve Shuck and Rory Meister (So., Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield Madison) pitched the ninth to pick up his first save of the season. Buckeye pitching struck out 10 Missouri batters. Aaron Crow got the loss (0-1) for Missouri. In 5.1 innings, he allowed four runs on seven hits despite six strikeouts and a pair of walks. Three other pitchers finished the game. Missouri had two errors while the Buckeyes committed only one, which led to the Tigers' second run in the top of the ninth inning.
Missouri, the alma mater of OSU head coach Bob Todd, got two hits from Taylor and one hit each from Chambers and Ryan Lollis. It was the first time Todd, now in his 23rd season as a college coach, had opposed his former school. Missouri, which had opened the weekend with a 14-5 upset victory over top-ranked Florida on Friday, dropped its final two games of the tournament to fall to 5-4 on the year.
The Buckeyes, now 1-2 on their young season, return to action next weekend with four games in Jacksonville, Fla. The trip opens with an exhibition game vs. a Japanese National Team Friday at the University of North Florida at noon. Immediately following that game, Ohio State will take on UNC-Greensboro. The Buckeyes travel across town to take on Jacksonville Saturday at 1 p.m. and then return to UNF to close the trip vs. Western Michigan Sunday at 11 a.m.

This thread is very old, and Ohio State didn't sweep, but I just wanted to say that I was in the crowd with all of my Ohio State stuff on. Got in free with my UF student I.D., but I sat in the away section and cheered on the Buckeye's for each game. Met some of the parents and was talking about Ohio and OSU with many of them. Had a great time.

Go Buckeyes!
