Wake Forest upends OSU in baseball season opener

    Saturday, February 25, 2006

Ohio State fell victim to three errors and missed opportunities in a 6-2 season-opening loss to Wake Forest at the Pepsi Baseball Classic yesterday in Gainesville, Fla.

Eric Fryer homered to give the Buckeyes (0-1) a 1-0 lead. Jacob Howell was picked off first base one batter earlier.

The Demon Deacons (4-3) responded with Allan Dysktra’s three-run homer and Eric Williams’ sacrifice fly.

OSU’s Ronnie Bourquin scored on a Jedidiah Stephen double to center in the fourth to make it 4-2.

In the eighth, J.B. Shuck was thrown out trying to reach third base on a Matt Angle single. Fryer drew a two-out walk to load the bases but was out when he was hit by Bourquin’s grounder.
Dan DeLucia (0-1) gave up three earned runs in six innings.

You can't commit multiple errors against any Div I team and expect to win. You sure as hell can't make them against the #2 ranked team.

It's still early in the season. This will help down the road.

Thanks for the updates guys. It really sucks that these other teams have already played a lot of games.

Also do you guys know where we have been practicing. Do they have an indoor facility on campus. If so you would think that could contribute to the errors, b/c they probably havent been outdoors on a field a whole lot here in OH, why the likes of UF and Wake probably have.

I say see where we are at in a week or two and judge then. These are basicallly like exhibiition games and it seems like errors and walks are killing us. These should be problems we can fix.
