People know more about The Simpsons than the Constitution

"Petition for redress of grievances" sounds more like Lisa to me :tongue2:

Everyone knows its not actually "Petition for redress of grievences"

get your constitution out and check,

The Airing of Grievances: At the Festivus dinner, each participant tells friends and family all of the instances where they disappointed him or her that year

Just in case there is anyone on this board who has not memorized the First Amendment word for word, it reads as follows: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

BTW, I've been practicing law for 20 years, and I doubt that I would've gotten all five of them. I would definitely have gotten the first three, and probably the fourth (right to assemble), but probably would have forgotten the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Or in simpler terms...

All US Citizens have the freedom of speech.

That's a little too simple.

way to simple. ted, the first amemdment is extremely important. just imagine what your life would be like without anyone of those rights.

1. a national religioin enforceable upon the masses with prison time or worse. you will believe or you will be punished.
2. federal news broadcasts that report only what has been officially released by the gov and no other news agencies. and people think fox is bad.
3. your not allowed to peacefully demostrate. go to a sports event. go to a club. basically go anywhere that people normally congregate in large numbers. be the purpose of doing so political or not.
4. it is a crime to disagree with anything the gov says or does.

this might seem like a rediculous thought to most of us. but there are countries out there that don't have any of these rights. the mass majority don't have all of them.
