    COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team is set to conclude the 2019 home schedule with a critical three-game Big Ten series against Penn State Friday-Sunday at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. The series begins at 6:35 p.m. Friday with the middle game at 3:05 p.m. Saturday. The Buckeyes will play their final home game at 1:05 p.m. Sunday. With two weeks to go in the regular season, the Scarlet and Gray (25-23, 7-11 B1G) sit in 11th place in the Big Ten standings, while the Nittany Lions (20-22, 3-16 B1G) are currently in 13th place. All three games will be streamed on BTN Plus ($). Fans can listen to the series on the radio on AM 1460 ESPN. Matt Andrews and Bob Spears will have the call.

The 2019 senior class has been a part of the 2016 Big Ten Tournament title team and two NCAA Regional appearances (2016 and 2018). The 2019 senior class will be recognized before first pitch vs. the Nittany Lions.

    SCOUTING PENN STATE
    The Nittany Lions are 20-22 overall and 3-16 in Big Ten play. Penn State is hitting .229 as team with 53 doubles and 22 homers. Jordan Bowersox is batting .314 with seven doubles, two homers and 12 RBI. The PSU pitching staff has combined for a 3.81 ERA with 435 strikeouts in 378.1 innings of work. Dante Biasi leads the Big Ten with 92 strikeouts in 64.2 innings of work. He is fourth in ERA (2.23).

    LAST TIME OUT
    Ohio State claimed a big midweek victory over in-state opponent Wright State on Wednesday night in Columbus. Dominic Canzone launched a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to lift the Buckeyes to a 6-5 win over the Raiders. Canzone went 2-for-4 with his 13th homer of the season, while Conner Pohl also homered in a 2-for-3 game. Junior right-handed reliever Joe Gahm earned his first collegiate win, throwing one scoreless inning of relief with a pair of strikeouts, while junior left-handed reliever Andrew Magno tossed a scoreless ninth to register his eighth save of the year.

    THE BOYS HIT THE ROAD
    Ohio State concludes the 2019 regular season with four road games next week. The Buckeyes travel north to play at Youngstown State at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 14 before traveling to West Lafayette, Ind., for their final B1G series Thursday-Saturday at Purdue.

      COLUMBUS, Ohio – In front of 1,836 fans on Senior Day, the Ohio State baseball team split a doubleheader Saturday against Penn State at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. Behind a dominant performance on the mound by Seth Lonsway, the Buckeyes shut out the Nittany Lions, 2-0, in game one, while Penn State won game two, 10-6. With the series win, Ohio State moves to 27-24 overall and 9-12 in Big Ten play. Penn State goes to 21-14 overall and 4-18 in conference action.

      GAME 1: PENN STATE 0, OHIO STATE 2
      Redshirt freshman left-handed pitcher Seth Lonsway struck out a career-high 13 batters in eight scoreless innings as the Buckeyes took down Penn State, 2-0, in game one of the doubleheader. Redshirt junior Matt Carpenter came up with the big one-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh for the eventual game-winning play. Junior left-handed reliever Andrew Mango pitched a scoreless ninth to claim his 10th save of the season. Freshman Nick Erwin had a two-hit game.

      PITCHERS’ DUEL
      Both starting pitchers limited the bats to no runs through six innings. PSU right-handed starter Eric Mock worked five scoreless innings on two hits, two walks and six strikeouts in a no decision game. He was relieved in the top of the sixth by left-hander Hutch Gagnon. Lonsway stranded two runners in scoring position in the top of the seventh with his 12th strikeout of the game to tie his season high. Lonsway scattered five hits with one walk and 13 strikeouts to improve to 6-4 on the year. Gagnon received the loss to drop to 0-1.

      CARP DELIVERS
      The OSU redshirt junior second baseman came up big at the dish when he cracked a 1-2 pitch off PSU reliever Kyle Virbitsky into the gap in left center in the bottom of the seventh for a two-run double to put the Buckeyes on top, 2-0. Erwin singled up the middle before Dominic Canzone doubled down the right field line.

      GAME NOTES 1
      • Canzone extended his reached base streak to 46 games with a lead-off hit by pitch in the bottom of the first.
      • Pohl was hit by a pitch in the first to extend his reached base streak to 18 games (career-high).
      • Dingler extended his reached base streak to 26 straight games.
      • Multi-hit games: Erwin (5).
      • Canzone collected his 13th double of the season and 35th of his career.
      • Lonsway fanned a career-high 13 hitters.
      • Magno picked up his 10th save of the season.

      GAME 2: PENN STATE 10, OHIO STATE 6
      Penn State jumped out to a quick lead and maintained control throughout the series finale, winning 10-6. The Nittany Lions scored three in the second, two in the fourth and five in the fifth to take a commanding lead over the Buckeyes. PSU starting pitcher Conor Larkin struck out 10 in six innings limiting the Scarlet and Gray bats to three hits to improve to 4-2 on the year. Ohio State starting pitcher Griffan Smith received the loss to fall to 5-4.

      BUCKEYE HOMERS
      Brady Cherry launched a solo homer over the left field wall in the second. Dominic Canzone blasted a solo homer over the right field wall in the third. The two Buckeyes have combined for 25 homers this spring.

      RALLY FALLS SHORT IN NINTH
      Ohio State plated four runs on three hits in the bottom of the ninth. Malik Jones knocked a bases-clearing double before Andrew Fishel hit a RBI double. Kobie Foppe also singled through the right side. However, a fly out to right ended the game.

      GAME 2 NOTES
      • Ohio State finishes the home schedule with a 15-10 record.
      • Canzone extended his reached base streak to 47 straight games (career-high). He’s hit safely in 23 of his last 24 games.
      • Canzone leads the team with 14 homers. It’s the most homers by a Buckeye in 10 years (Dan Burkhart, 2009).
      • Dingler extended his reached base streak to 27 contests (career-high).
      • The OSU pitching staff combined to strike out 24 hitters in the series over Penn State. The staff has struck out 471 strikeouts this spring, which is 24 strikeouts shy of the OSU team record set in 2016 (495).
