Does anyone have any advice about where one can stay for the Penn State game? I have a group of guys with tickets but it is pretty hard to find a hotel.

Would like to stay near campus.

Thanks!

There are a ton of rooms/apartments/condos for rent on the PSU Craigslist site (pennstate.craigslist.org). The locals apparently know how insane the hotel rates are. You can get a decent place for $150-$200/night, just look around under "Housing, Vacation Rentals". There are also some pretty nice places on there for a bigger price. Still not cheap, but better than $300 for a night at the Super 8.

Alternatively, if you want a more, um, reputable room, you can find one in Altoona, about an hour away from State College. In 2007, we found a room at the Ramada right after the game with no reservation (about $80).

I'm about to give up on lodging and just sleep in the car. I was quoted $600 and $800 for two nights in someone's dumpy apartment via Craigslist.

If anyone needs to pool some more people to rent a house let me know. I have just me and the lady.

campgrounds

I have friends that have stayed at a campground whithin striking distance of State College.Obviously because of the time of year you would need a vehicle to stay in as oppoosed to sleeping in a tent.

Altoona

I grew up in State College and have been doing the game day thing for as long as I can remember. Your best bet now would be to find a hotel in Altoona. There are nice, reasonable room available. The drive is only about 45 mins now that the highway (I-99) is complete.
