Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

I've been sitting on this one since the Penn State game this year.

My brother and I came to Columbus early and met up with some friends for the OSU/PSU hockey game (the second one). We were in one of the suites. A little while into the first period, who should come doofusing a few rows in front of us, but Jay Paterno. My brother yelled "JAY" a few times to see if he'd turn around.....eventually did. Our buddy who is a Penn State fan living in Columbus walked to the edge of the suite and yelled "JAY PATERNO" and he confirmed that is indeed who it was.

My brother isn't one to shy away from heckling. He was giving him shit all game. Jay got up to leave at one point and my brother yelled "I REMEMBER WHEN YOUR DAD POOPED HIS PANTS". Jay wasn't going to let that one slide. Fun fact......the suites in the Schott are accessible from any seat in the lower level. Wanna know how I know this? Because about 10 seconds later, Jay Paterno has his arm around my brother, telling him the Paterno version of why Joe didn't actually poop his pants that day. The proof? A reporter asked him if he was embarrassed about running off the field before halftime, and Joe's answer was "not half as embarrassed as if I hadn't made it".

I was distancing myself from the whole thing, so I wasn't able to ask the very obvious follow up question of "then why did he change his pants for the second half?"

So there you have it. The Paterno family was so embarrassed by good ol Joe shitting himself that they have a locked and loaded story to tell almost TWENTY YEARS LATER. It bothered them that much. Which brings me a nice little sliver of joy.
1. I love that you used "doofus" as a verb.
2. Especially when explaining what Jay Paterno was doing.
3. I find it hilarious that Paterno was so pure that he couldn't have possibly had an accident. I mean, count how many of us haven't had an accident at some point. I think it was already reported that he had been fighting a stomach flu, or something. I remember when it happened, in 2006, it was right before a 4th down play. The offense was getting off the field and the punt team was coming on. And so was Joe Paterno. "Why is HE running on the field? Oh - he's going straight to the locker room. They did say he was having some flu-like symptoms, or something. I wonder if he has to go shit or puke or something." I'm not a very observant guy, so I found out later that he was wearing different pants when he came back out.
But... when you check out their message boards, it was photoshopped, or something. Joe Paterno never had an accident.
Dang.. that was already 19 years ago. I feel old.

They are so delusional that the top two names on their lists were Meyer and Saban. What the fuck makes them think either of those guys would want to coach Penn State?

"And I've saved the best for last. But, I have to let you know that I went through A LOT of trouble to make this happen. I thought even suggesting this might cost me my job! Get this: We are going to let you work in Joe Paterno's very own office! Look! It's exactly the same as the day he left in 2011! But, of course, you're not allowed to change anything. Wait a second, what am I saying? Why would you want to change anything? Coach Meyer? Why are you putting on your coat? Coach Meyer, come back! Where are you going?"

Sources: Penn State focusing search on Iowa State's Campbell

Iowa State coach Matt Campbell has emerged as the focus of Penn State's head coaching search, sources told ESPN on Thursday.

Penn State is in discussions with Campbell about its vacancy after initiating contact with him Wednesday. Both sides are early in the process, and any hire at Penn State will require additional steps and board approval.

Iowa State, Matt Campbell finalize extension through 2032

Campbell will earn $5 million per year in total compensation, according to a copy of the contract obtained by ESPN on Friday. The three-time Big 12 Coach of the Year honoree took a discount on the deal, sources told ESPN, to ensure that his staff salary pool increased and to allow Iowa State to allocate an additional $1 million to revenue-sharing funds for its football roster.

If Campbell accepts another Power 4 head coaching job before the end of his contract, his buyout would be $2 million.

Just sayin': WOW!!! His buyout is just $2M.

Bobby Carpenter was hinting this morning that DeBoer is not real happy at Alabama and may still be a realistic candidate.

Matt Campbell for the millionth time.

Just sayin': Reportedly the Pedsters are talking to Matt Campbell now.

Kalen DeBoer denies interest in leaving Alabama for Penn State

Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said he doesn't have interest in other jobs.

DeBoer, who has a 19-6 cumulative record and is in his second season with the ninth-ranked Crimson Tide, had been linked to Penn State's coaching vacancy.

"We're extremely happy at Alabama," DeBoer said Thursday ahead of this weekend's SEC championship game against No. 3 Georgia.

"We're extremely happy here, love the challenge, love the grind, love this place. There's never been any link, there's never been any conversation, there's never been any interest either way. So I'm glad we can put that to bed right now."
