This is the point where they find out they are what the rest of CFB thinks they are, not what their delusions think they are. Like so many times before at so many other programs, you fire the "right" guy because he can't take your program to the next level and you learn that levels are a fluid thing.

This is, imo, the culmination of their frustration of joining the B1G and thinking they were going to dominate. They still haven't come to grips with it as a group even 30 some odd years later.

Reality getting your attention can be a motherfucker and I think they are about to get a double dose of it.

And as the coaching search drags out and this reality becomes more and more of a possibility, it’s humorous and predictable to watch them retreat back into their cult comfort zone. “Well, we wanted a “success with honor” man all along. Was Deboer wearing a 409 button?”

At this point, I’m not sure PSU has much of a choice. It’s not the destination job that they always thought it was. Smith may be the best option considering they broke the bank to buy out Franklin. They’ve already lost all their recruits for next season.

What’s even funnier is Nebraska who spent a ton to keep Rhule from jumping to PSU was demolished by PSU yesterday.

They negotiated an $8 million dollar buyout with Franklin. Owed him $48 million less whatever he makes from another job, so his VT contract must be around $40M.
