Maybe I'm not smart enough, but much of this interview doesn't make sense to me.
But this part just sounds like he's trying to make no sense:
Question 5: Did preseason rankings and hype impact Penn State?
“Well, I think, Coach [Saban], you understand this better than anybody, right? You’ve used the phrase rat poison, right? The negative is rat poison that you got to get everybody to tune out, and the positive is rat poison.

I’m guessing the point he’s trying to make is that all outside noise can be dangerous, whether it’s praising your team or tearing it down.

Just sayin': I am trying to figure out what happened to Penn State this year. They were 3+ points from getting into the CFP National Championship Game in 2024 and have pretty much everybody (except Abdul Carter) back for 2025. Everyone expected them to be a "powerhouse team" in 2025. Look at their 2024 schedule, they lost to the only 3 really good teams that they played (i.e. Ohio State, Oregon, and Notre Dame). They had the best seeding in the CFPs having to play (CFP #11) SMU at home and then (CFP #3) Boise State. Needless to say SMU and Boise State were not the #11 and #3 best teams in the country; they only got the CFP seeding that they did because of their records in very weak conferences. Boise State's best win might have been against (AP #20) UNLV and SMU's best win might have been against (AP #22) Louisville (they even lost to (AP #17) Clemson in the ACC CCG).

In hindsight, I don't think that the "Pedsters" were nearly as great in 2024 as most people thought (i.e. definitely not a Top 10 team). And coupled with Franklin's propensity to lose the "big games";
James Franklin had a poor record in big games, finishing 4-21 against AP top-10 opponents (1-18 record against top-10 Big Ten teams) during his time at Penn State.
they were probably just primed to implode/"crash and burn" this season.

Yep, and they also lost Tyler Warren.

Last year Allar couldn’t complete passes to his WRs, how was that going to improve by losing their best offensive weapon?

Just sayin': I don't think lack of a WR was a problem. They got WRs Trebor Peña (Syracuse), Kyron Hudson (USC), and Devonte Ross (Troy) out of the portal; and all three are starting.

Peña: 23 receptions, 221 yards, 9.6 ave., 1 TD
Hudson: 19 receptions, 218 yards, 11.5 ave., 2 TDs
Ross: 18 receptions, 255 yards, 14.2 ave., 3 TDs

Those guys have a total of less than 1 TD and 100 yards per game, so that’s not very good production.
