Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

1. I agree that the white out is very overrated. "Let's all dress in the color of the other team's uniforms!" And the fact that they think they invented it is funny. And that they think they should be able to bully the TV networks into letting them choose their schedule to get an optimal time slot for their white out makes me laugh, too.
2. As for your question about other traditions being more overrated, I'll throw out some other traditions that I'm not crazy about, and let others decide if they're "more overrated":
- The cheaters saving their #1 jersey for some privileged nerd. Lame.
- aTm's "12th man". I'm not crazy about it, but I don't think it's nearly as overrated as the white out.
- Little Brown Jug. Dang - I wish my team could win a water jug.
- Jump-Around. White-Out is still more overrated in my mind, but I figured I'd bring this one out.
- I never thought Clemson's run down the hill was at all impressive. I don't want someone to get hurt, but I find it fun to think that a season-ending injury might happen to a key player running down the hill.
"Jump Around" rules!

Is there any tradition more overrated than the White Out game? Pedo State is 11 and 6 in white out games. Not really striking fear in anyone's heart...
I'd argue there's white out made those losses a lot more competitive than they would've been on a neutral field. The white out's do have an effect, but they’re not enough to overcome the subpar coaching vs elite teams

I'd argue it's not the white out.....it's the idiot fans. I remember once before I stopped going to that shitty stadium we were kicking the shit out of them in the first half. They came out in the second half with no reason to be excited, got a single first down which caused their stadium to get wayyyyyyy more pumped than they ever needed to get, and rode that momentum to come back and win. They were not all wearing matching baptismal pajamas at the time....they're just so stupid they don't know when they're supposed to lose.

Interesting theory. I noticed that they are currently 13-9, including the loss to Oregon and the games where the "white-out" was only the student section, and not stadium wide ( I think it is 11-6) for Stadium wide, but whatevs). The thing is, they were only 8 and 8 as recently as 2019, and actually had a losing record the year before that. After COVID, they went on a 5 game win streak, including 2 games in 2024, which makes their record slightly better than the first 16 White Out games.

They also scheduled some wins. NW was a white out recently.

Yeah, they were pissing and moaning the last couple of years that because of B1G scheduling the White Out had to be with some inferior opponents. When was the last time the Bucks played there in a true night game White Out?
Oops - I didn't see your reply when I typed that.
To answer your question, I'll say that 2018 was a white out, for sure.
2020 was COVID year, so that probably wouldn't count.
2022 was not. That was JT's domination year.
2024 was not.
