Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

That play never gets old......

Which begs the question: What is Hackenberg doing now?

Christian Hackenberg's second chance: Is Memphis his last pro stop, or is an NFL return on the horizon?

By all outward appearances, Christian Hackenberg’s NFL career is in ruins.

Drafted in 2016’s second round, 51st overall, then dealt away after two seasons by the Jets. A look and a pass by the ultimate quarterback guru, Jon Gruden, in Oakland last spring. A few weeks of training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles in August. Then, an unceremonious release from the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad in November.

Three years removed from the early promise and rocky finish to Hackenberg’s Penn State career, it seemed as if football is through with the quarterback, once all-but destined for NFL glory.

The most damning statistic was no stat at all: Nearly 3 seasons and four teams, yet Hackenberg has registered precisely zero snaps in a regular season NFL game.

Already, Hackenberg is saddled with the dubious distinction of being the first quarterback in 35 years taken in the first or second rounds never to play in an actual NFL game during his first two seasons. The longer this goes, the more embarrassing the record becomes.

Indeed, in the eyes of pro football, it’s as if Christian Hackenberg never existed. He’s a statistical non-entity.

But can something be over that never really began?

He signed onto something called the Alliance of American Football, an upstart pro-league of eight teams playing a 10-week season that begins the weekend after Super Bowl LIII.

.
But Hackenberg, in an exclusive interview with PennLive, reveals he has a carefully plotted plan. It begins with standing out in training camp for the franchise known as the Memphis Express.

Just sayin: Braxton Miller isn't an NFL star; however, he has played in the NFL (Texans) for 2 seasons and is currently on a NFL (Eagles) team.

On September 10, 2018, Miller was signed to the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad. He signed a reserve/future contract with the Eagles on January 14, 2019

He sacked him using his own running back.

:slappy:

Sometimes I wonder if that should even count as a sack. I mean, of course it should; just watch the play. But he doesn't even touch Hackenberg.
Maybe it's the same as if the quarterback runs out of bounds before being hit by a defender. I'm pretty sure that counts as a sack, if it's behind the line of scrimmage.

Yeah, I think that's the rule. In my opinion, it was so awesome it should have counted as 2 sacks

I watched that live (of course). I just broke out laughing when it happened. I couldn't believe I had just seen a Defensive Lineman sack a QB by pushing his RB into him.

WR Cam Sullivan-Brown is at least 12th player to explore transfer from Penn State since the end of the regular season

In mid-January, it was reported that at least 11 Penn State football players had, since the end of the 2018 regular season, either decided to transfer or put their names in the NCAA transfer database signaling a probable intent to move on. While one of those potential movers subsequently pulled his name out, another has since placed his name into the growing-in-infamy portal.

According to 247Sports.com, and also confirmed by ESPN‘s Cole Cubelic over the weekend, Cam Sullivan-Brown is now listed in the NCAA’s transfer database. The wide receiver is now able to speak to other football programs without receiving permission from his current school, while also maintaining the ability to withdraw his name and return to Happy Valley.

I can't help but wonder how all this would have played out if the witness to the sole incident which was brought to the attention of Penn State administrators had immediately reported it to police instead of said witness asking daddy what to do. Alas, I'll never know.

There is some sanity over there. Surprisingly, this comment received likes.
