Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Paterno supporters light 409 candles on anniversary of his death

Quote:
TATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Despite a subzero windchill, about 400 Joe Paterno supporters gathered in front of a mural in downtown here to honor the man who commanded Penn State's football sidelines for 46 years. Students, alumni and fans bundled in jackets, scarves and hats huddle together, taking solace that the night had allowed them to celebrate Paterno's life surrounded by fellow supporters.

On the one-year anniversary of the longtime Penn State head football coach's death, 409 luminaries lined Heister Street in front of Michael Pilato's Inspiration Mural. The number represents each of Paterno's wins before 111 of his victories were vacated as part of the sanctions handed down by the NCAA in response to a report that alleged top school administrators could have prevented Jerry Sandusky from sexually abusing young boys.

Paterno died in January 2011 of complications related to his lung cancer at age 85.

Pilato spoke briefly about how appreciative he was of the crowd, saying, "We are all here as one big family to honor a great man." Pilato said Paterno was looking down on Heister Street and would see the "409" depicted on the Inspiration Mural.

In terms of teams he coached that were the best in the country and deserved to be ranked number one, I would add at least 4 others - '68, '69, '73 and '94. Many forget the 1973 squad was the first team in college football history to go 12-0; the 1982 team was the first to win the MNC while throwing for more yards than they ran for; the '94 team is considered by some to be the greatest offensive team in the history of the game; the '68 and '69 teams may have been the best defensive teams of all time.

First off, the 1982 team ROBBED us of a national championship:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XiH8mxa-Z0"]Obviously out of bounds[/ame]

Second off - the 1994 team....well, this pretty much says it (from Wikipedia):
The 1994 NCAA Division I-A football season saw yet another controversial finish as both Nebraska and Penn State finished undefeated, and yet Penn State finished a distant second in the final AP and UPI polls. Big Ten media voters were loath to cast their votes in favor of the new team in the conference - one who had just embarrassed one of the "Big Two" to the tune of 63-14 earlier in the season.

So, let me get this straight....Penn State joins the B1G in 1990, and four years later, they run up the score on you guys - what did they THINK was going to happen? That'd be like US running the score up on you guys in our first year and expecting you to vote for us in the polls.

Dumbasses.

And this:

the '94 team is considered by some to be the greatest offensive team in the history of the game

R.....really?!? In the History of the GAME?!? I can think of about 20 teams right now that were better offensively in the history of the game. A couple of Mike Leach Squads, UT with Vince Young, the list goes on and on.

Wouldn't have mattered anyway. 1994 Huskers had destiny on their side, and would have pimp slapped Joe Pa silly.

But most people agree (when they look objectively) that the 1995 Husker team is probably recognized amongst most as one of the most dominant (if not the most dominant) in history. Hell, even ESPN (and Herbie, LOL) states that the 71 and 95 teams are the best in history (argueable, obvously).

But that 1995 squad would (might I use a well deserved pun here) pound Penn State's ass.

Not to mention we didn't have a future Pennsylvania State of Corrections Hall of Famer on the sidelines for us....

Actually, I think that is some deluded Pedster's opinion. Looks like Mack Daddy's mom or dad logged him onto wikipedia instead of bwi.

...And then a few years later they had the gall to complain about Ohio State running up the score and being at fault for Adam Taliaferro's injury as a result.

Penn State and their fans can fuck right off.

you could say they can go fuck themselves, but they're already doing that and it shows in the commentary....

Was 2006. I was there. Everyone was like "where the hell is Paterno going?"

Poor bastard. I had the misfortune of sharting myself at a bar one time. I basically used my drawers as TP and went bareback the rest of the evening. No fun.

This.

If you go back & look at the AP results. PSU received a higher percentage of votes within Big Ten territory than anywhere else in the country...including Pennsylvania (2 of the 3 in PA voted for Nebraska).
