Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

https://bwi.forums.rivals.com/threa...frontrunners-for-big-ten-media-rights.321931/

They're talking about how ESPN is out of the running for Big Ten media rights.

So FOX will play all their big time A games at noon? Great.
(That isn't new. This will be at least the third year they've done that. Maybe fourth. Maybe more.)
No more night time Buckeye Whiteouts it seems. Now we *really* know they are Buckeye fans.
Yeah - this was Ohio State's attempt to force Penn State to quit having whiteouts when Ohio State is in town.

They already quit having Ohio State as the whiteout this year, without any prompting. We all know they're tired of losing their marquee game every other year.

Looks like "official" whiteouts they're 2-3 against Ohio State. There was at least a student whiteout in 2007 though and this video says "recapping the whiteout" at the start for 2009. I'd say they're 2-5.

Let's check out my memory:
2005 - Penn State won
2007 - Ohio State won
2009 - Ohio State won
2012 - Ohio State won
2014 - Ohio State won
2016 - Penn State won
2018 - Ohio State won
2020 - Ohio State won, but I'll give them that this wasn't a white out.

I get 2-5, too. But I don't see how they're 2-3 if the actual "white out" begins in 2009.
2005 and 2007 may have been "student white outs", but if they start in 2009, I see that Ohio State is 4-1. Or are they doing something lame like claiming a victory in 2014?

According to Wikipedia, 2007 was the first "everyone where white" game. But it has records going back to 2004 against Purdue.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Out_(Penn_State)

It claims that most of its white outs were not against Ohio State, even in years when Ohio State went to Penn State. The official white out games against Ohio State: 2005, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018.

I still think its a lame tradition.

That was literally my exact process

I was surprised when they didn't have 2007 and 2009 listed as whiteouts.

It's lame that they have an official whiteout game, even when other games are clearly whiteouts as well. And it's really lame that they act like they invented it in 2004 or whenever. We were doing *color*outs at my high school in the late 90s.

I posted this thread a couple of days ago. They're whining because Franklin's fellow coaches don't respect Penn State enough to rank them in the top 25. Then someone said, "Yeah - 11-11 last 2 years, terrible performance in bowl games, etc." It quickly turns into "Franklin sucks!!!"

I just don’t see a scenario where he leaves on his own without a contract from someone else…..in which case his contract value will get higher. The leverage granted by Sandy is impressive.
When his obvious mistakes are met with 100000 fans booing he will be highly motivated to make a change. Do his kids go to school or have friends that are fans? Does his wife socialize with PSU people? How long would he subject them to a hostile environment? LOTS of things can cause his quality of life to decline that are not written into any contract.

There becomes a point where the money just isn't worth it anymore.
So... treat the guy like they treat Ohio State fans?
I'd start by putting the entire football staff, including CJF, in a "bull" pen environment. Put a time clock on the door and slash any budget that isn't specifically allocated per the contract. I would extend the ncaa maximum practice time per week requirement to include ALL football related activities including film study, weight training, etc. We want our FB players to be students first, don't we?

If that weren't enough I'd start to get really creative.

Last year when he didn't shut down the "JF is leaving for USC" rumors was the absolute last straw for me. I want him out of here by any means.
What do they call it? Charred earth? If we can't get rid of Franklin, let's just make our football team really bad. I'm sure it will be easy to lure Nick Saban from Alabama or... I don't know who other big name coaches are that Penn State would want. Who'd want to go to Penn State if they're purposely sabotaging the team?

Dennis Reynolds : What do you mean what do we need boos for? Why in the hell do you think we just spent all that money on tickets? The whole purpose of buying tickets in the first place was to cheer when things are good, and then we can take 'em to a nice comfortable place below the bleachers to chase him off and, you know, he can't refuse, because of the implication.

Mac : Oh, uh... okay. You had me going there for the first part, the second half kinda threw me.

Dennis Reynolds : Well dude, dude, think about it: he's out in the middle of the stadium with 1000,000 dudes he barely knows. You know, he looks around and what does he see? Nothin' but 100,000 whack jobs in white that are okay with violence and sexual assault. "Ahh, there's nowhere for me to run. What am I gonna do, stay?"

Mac : Okay. That... that seems really dark.

Dennis Reynolds : Nah, no it's not dark. You're misunderstanding me, bro.

Mac : I'm-I think I am.

Dennis Reynolds : Yeah, you are, because if he wants to stay said then the answer obviously is stay...

Mac : No, right.

Dennis Reynolds : But the thing is he's not gonna want to stay, he would never want to stay, because of the implication.

Mac : ...Now you've said that word "implication" a couple of times. Wha-what implication?

Dennis Reynolds : The implication that things might go wrong for him or his wife or his kids if he wants to stay. Now, not that things are gonna go wrong for him but he's thinkin' that they will.

Mac : But it sounds like he doesn't wanna leave his contract...

Dennis Reynolds : Why aren't you understanding this? He-he doesn't know if he wants to leave his contract. That's not the issue...

Mac : Are you gonna hurt his wife and kids?

Dennis Reynolds : I'm not gonna hurt his wife and kids! Why would I ever hurt his wife and kids? I feel like you're not getting this at all!

Mac : I'm not getting it.

Dennis Reynolds : Goddamn.

[notices woman in Penn St shirt staring at them]

Dennis Reynolds : Well don't you look at me like that, you certainly wouldn't be in any danger.

Mac : So they are in danger!

Dennis Reynolds : No one's in any danger!

Interesting situation going on over there today:

"Penn State football freshman Ken Talley has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, 247Sports has learned. Talley was a four-star signee in the 2022 class and was a full participant in fall camp with the Nittany Lions. The edge rusher was the last player in the 2022 class to arrive on campus, joining Penn State ahead of camp.

Over the spring, the Philadelphia (Pa.) Northeast product was identified a central figure within a 2022 Nittany Lions recruiting class that finished top-10 in the national rankings, per the 247Sports Composite.

"He's the heartbeat," Penn State defensive recruiting coordinator and cornerbacks coach Terry Smith said. "He's kinda gonna be what Jesse Luketa brought for us as the pulse of the defense. I think this guy is gonna bring that to us. His energy, his smile, his personality, his tenacity, the dog in him."

One guy says, "I wonder if it's an academic issue??" The others take it as truth and run. "Let him go to CC for a year to get his academics in line and then come back." I mean, Harvard of Pennsylvania, and such. It has to be academics, right?

He got a good glimpse of Franklin coaching that’s all he needed
Only one response to that guy, but he didn't like being punched in the gut.

Finally, Response #25:
Not sure if it was academic.... He was on campus and practicing. He wouldn't have been here if he wasn't accepted. I suspect something else.

Can you be "on campus" and practicing if you haven't officially graduated high school, yet? What if he's been practicing and waiting to hear about results of some test he had to take over the summer? And while he waits, he's practicing. Or is that against all the rules?

I suspect he thought he'd be THE man on campus. And when he found out he wasn't, he figured he'd leave for somewhere he can be THE man. But that's just a wild guess. I don't know the guy at all.
