Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Glorious. That is akin to a couple jackasses arguing over which horse finished 4th in a Tuesday night chariot race at Charles Town raceway.

Maybe worse, might be more like 5th place greyhound finish at Southland Park. Losers...all of them.

To be fair --- Shoop is a pretty darn good coach. I've seen it with my own eyes, and LSU & Auburn have been sniffing around at Shoop as well. Those are pretty good schools there.

As of the moment, it looks like Shoop is in Knoxville. Just flew down in a private plane from University Park Airport.

So, Coach Franklin has had a pretty eventful "first 181 hours of the New Year":

(1) Lost the "Slay Your Taxes" Bowl. No surprise there, as he always loses against teams that are even halfway-decent.
(2) Had the star QB publicly embarrass him via his post-game comments.
(3) Lost a star Defensive Line recruit.
(4) May be about to lose his best assistant coach.

It may take another 24 months, but the sooner Penn State moves onto the next era, the better IMO.

This is what Ped State's next era should look like:

I sort of like the Bearcats. Nippert is nice, I take my 10-year-old nephew to a few games a year.

Now, Urban doesn't owe UC any football games, but Thad needs to re-familiarize himself with I-71 and set up a home-and-home. It's incredibly silly that UC and OSU don't hoop it up.

Some wounds never heal. We had all we ever needed of UC hoops in the NCAA finals. Twice, as I recall.

Fuck Cincytucky....he should start a rivalry with teams he coached, namely Butler and Xavier....

Not sure what you mean by "the next era," but as a Penn St. fan, you should be praying that includes Franklin being relieved of his duties. That guy's been promoted about three or four levels higher than his capabilities warrant.

I understood 409 to be saying just that, canning Franklin in the next 24 months.

Yes --- exactly.

I think what happens, though is this: PSU goes 7-6 or 8-5 in 2016. Then goes 8-5 or 9-4 in 2017. Franklin may be a bad HC, but he is a good recruiter and it's inevitable that the team will gradually become deeper/more experienced (PSU was very young in 2014 and still pretty young in 2015).

Penn State could pretty easily get into a "7-to-9 wins per season spin cycle" in the back half of the 2010s. That's sort of the worst possible situation: good enough that Franklin doesn't get fired but stuck with a coach who will never get BEYOND that spin cycle.
