This is what cracks me up. I was watching an episode where a guy brought in an alchemy book owned by Isaac fucking Newton that was appraised for $20K. He sold it to them for $7K. Fucking retard. I'm constantly yelling at the idiots on that show that sell shit for 25-30% of it's value. I'm guessing that 75-80% of them are degenerate gamblers.Mr_Burns;1871101; said:If they were offering me $5,000 less than what an expert just told me something was worth, I'd go the ebay route first. Some of those people are total suckers.
Dryden;1871118; said:I can see taking the cash in a situation where you've got an expert on hand authenticating the item and a prospective buyer who will give you $7,000 in cash right now. For instance, in the case of the Isaac Newton book, it might go for $20K at auction at Sotheby's, but it's not like you can just throw it on eBay, claim Newton owned it, and you're guaranteed $20,000 in your PayPal account seven days later.
So the ones that get me are the people that bring in small low dollar items that could easily sell on eBay and take less than half value for it. Like the guy that brought in his Nintendo Virtual Boy with box and all documentation and sold if for $70. Dude, put that on eBay with a $145 Buy-It Now and it'll be gone within eight hours.
That's true, but taking 35% value on an item appraised by an expert for 20 large is just stupid to me...unless you're in dire need of cash post haste. Do some research and find a way to get at least 60-70% of that value. Hell, I'm sure the "expert" can point you in the right direction.Dryden;1871118; said:I can see taking the cash in a situation where you've got an expert on hand authenticating the item and a prospective buyer who will give you $7,000 in cash right now.
