Paul Johnson to Georgia Tech

Navy ran all over Jackson State, as expected.

But I don't know why there isn't more pub over this. It's the flexbone offense for cryin' out loud!

I tried to watch on espn360, but goddammit I hate streaming video. Pauses every 3 seconds.

That offense looks pretty decent, but what offense doesn't look good against Jackson State.

Oh yeah, I hate Perriloux, and he's terrible, too.

AJC
Auburn-bound QB Dontae Aycock didn?t believe Georgia Tech would rescind scholarship offer

By Jeff Hood | Thursday, February 26, 2009, 10:32 PM
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Quarterback Dontae Aycock of Chamberlain High in Tampa, Fla. appeared destined to sign a letter of intent with Georgia Tech one month ago.
After privately committing to Tech during an official visit in mid-January, Aycock decided to take a last-minute visit to Auburn less than a week before national signing day on Feb. 4.
That decision didn?t sit well with Tech coach Paul Johnson, who wound up withdrawing Aycock?s scholarship offer. Johnson spoke by phone with Aycock prior to the quarterback?s trip to Auburn during the final recruiting weekend of the season.
?[Dontae and I] talked about what [commitment] meant,? Johnson told the AJC on signing day. ?That commitment means, especially two weeks before signing day, is that we?re through with the recruiting process. ? I?m giving you my word you?ve got a scholarship. You?re giving your word you?re coming.?
?I reiterated that to him: ?Dontae, don?t get on that plane.? His high school coach told him, ?Dontae, don?t get on that plane. When he chose to do that, he was telling me, in my mind, he didn?t want to come to Georgia Tech, and so we moved on.?
Aycock, who wound up signing with Auburn, spoke with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Thursday about his recruiting adventure with Georgia Tech:
Q: Why did you give a ?secret commitment? to Georgia Tech in mid-January?
A: ?I knew if word was to get out, it would probably be on the front page of Rivals and everybody would know. I just wanted to pick my school on signing day.?
Q: How did Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson react when you told him you wanted to visit Auburn less than a week prior to national signing day?
A: ?It was tough. When I told him I wanted to look at the school, his reaction was basically that I had committed to [Georgia Tech] and gave them my word. I had only taken one visit before visiting Georgia Tech, and that was to Louisville. And I had five visits overall [per NCAA rules]. I know it wasn?t the smartest idea. I thought Georgia Tech was the place for me at that time. But I just wanted to take that visit to Auburn just to take it and look and see.?
Q: What else did Johnson tell you during that conversation?
A: ?He was like ?how would you feel if we said we want you to be our quarterback and come to our school, but we want to go look at another quarterback?? I thought about it, and I wouldn?t like it. That was just kind of his reaction, since I had already committed. But I just wanted to go look at another school.?
Q: Did Johnson tell you he was going to pull your scholarship if you visited Auburn?
A: ?He didn?t tell me that on the phone. He told me if I was to get on the plane and take that trip to Auburn I was jeopardizing my scholarship.?

Good move, coach.

He wants men on his team, not boys. And if he has discussed with his men what commitment means, then to act any differently than that is to go back on what he believes.

I can see GT being a real force with Paul Johnson at the helm.

Buckeye Planet - please indulge me for a moment.

It's been a [censored]ty season, the Dawgs have under-performed in almost every game and lost to some of their bigger rivals.
HOWEVER - let us make lemons out of lemonade and point and laugh at the absolute meltdown taking place at "Sting Talk" a popular Georgia Tech sports message board.

It seems as if former Tech running back Jonathan Dywer went on his facebook page and called out the Tech fans for their failure to sell out their stadium, failing to show up for the non-traditional rivals and basically having little interest in the team once they were out of the ACC race.

http://www.stingtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50219

Sting Talk meltdown ensues, hating on Dwyer and calling him a fatass commences and a boring wednesday gets a little bit better.

Get [censored]ed Georgia Tech.

NOTE - Copied this in here from an ESPN thread tracking the bias of ESPN and their agenda against tOSU.

Today, College Football Live started with the story that Georgia Tech has been "slammed" by the NCAA, by taking away their 2009 ACC Championship, placing them on 4 years probation, and fining them $100,000.

The following has been transcribed word-for-word.

Joe Schad said that "essentially they're accused of not cooperating with an NCAA investigation.. ... former WR Demaryius Thomas is alleged to have received about $300 from the friend of somebody who was working for a sports agency." ,,, "$300, what's the big deal? The big deal is that D. Thomas was prepped for his interview by GT officials - that is a no-no."

Dari Nowkah - "Mayday, 2009 never happened, 4 years probation, all because of this $300 situation concerning Demaryius Thomas, and a coverup ... coverup? Have we heard of this recently? How might this affect what the NCAA does with Ohio State, if at all?"

Mary May - "Well, I think the President of the NCAA, Mark Emmert, right now, he's in a position where the pressure is on him, because he has to respond, not only to the Ohio State situation, but people are going to question 'If you don't slap Ohio State now, back to the Leather Helmet Days, for what they have done, what's going to happen to the teams in the future that do break the rules?' If you look at Georgia Tech for a $300 violation ... USC - they missed 2 years, they lost scholarships, they won't be able to go to Bowl Games. If Mark Emmert, if Jim Delany (the Commissioner of the Big Ten), don't step up to the Ohio State situation, the debacle that happened there, and put them on probation and make sure that they don't play in Bowl Games the next couple years, the system definitely needs a change. And we all know it needs a change, but right now if you look at this situation, and they don't do what's right, it should be an equal and level playing field - everyone is going to start questioning 'Is the system broken?' .. We know it's broken, but how do we fix it and when do we fix it?"

Dari - "Three big words, the NCAA's throwing down on Georgia Tech, you'll probably hear them with Ohio State, 'Failure to Cooperate', that's something that is included here with Georgia Tech."

May - "Sound familiar?"

Dari - "It does, and we may be hearing it again."

End of transcribed quotes. They didn't mention Oregon in the exchange.

Later, they decided to talk about TSUN again, so they started off the topic with the Kalis switching him commitment story.

So those two (or at least the ESPN folks scripting their exchange) have apparently decided that tOSU has 'failed to cooperate' in the NCAA investigation, despite the fact that tOSU self-reported and GT didn't. And Mark May has taken it upon himself to try to sway public opinion and pressure the NCAA into giving tOSU a multi-year bowl ban, although GT was not hit with one at this point.
