Patriots(-7.5) at Bengals

Pathetic piece of shit!

My confidence in Marvin Lewis is basically gone. When they hired him, I predicted they would make the playoffs that season. I was wrong but at 8-8, it was a move in the right direction. Followed with another 8-8 and then the 11-5 that felt like the organization had finally made it over the hump.

Could be worse, you could have Norv Turner.

Amen to that. :groove:

The SD GM should can Norv's incompetent ass and call Marty to offer him double what he was paid last year to come back for the rest of this season.

AJ Smith? Right, he'll run the franchise back into the ground before admitting he was wrong. I just hope he's done enough damage that Dean Spanos will finally fire his ass.

Here are the remaining games - beginning October 14th - after the bye week, there is no additional break.
at Kansas City
NY Jets
Pittsburgh
at Buffalo
at Baltimore
Arizona
Tennessee
at Pittsburgh
St. Louis
at San Francisco
Cleveland
at Miami

Think the Bengals can win 7 of those to go 8-8?

Didn't think so.

So, what this season may be boiling down to, and fast, is where do the Bengals draft next April. A less than .500 record could easily see the Bengals in a top-10 drafting position. If they fare at 6-10 or 5-11 then cracking the top 5-8 spots might happen.

Now, all speculation about rain-man Mikey Brown and his draft day idiocy aside, what players would you consider the Bengals most pressing requirements going forward?

LB, RB, DT, or Offensive Line?

Here's my thoughts on that schedule.

KC is a maybe, though that stadium is tough.
The Jets should be a win.
Pittsburgh at home should be interesting but I think that's a loss.
Buffalo should be a win.
At Baltimore is a maybe.
Arizona should be a win.
Tennesee is a maybe.
At Pittsburgh will most likely be a loss.
St Louis you should win.
At SF should be a win.
Cleveland, lol, can't wait for this rematch.
At Miami you should win, they have no offense yet.

So if they can win all the games they "should" win, meaning they have more talent, and squeek out one of two of those maybes they could end up at .500 or above.

basicly what happens over the bye week and then after is going to decide what this team does this year. On offense they are bad, it's a matter of getting healthy and keeping you head in the game. I'll be interested to see how this all plays out. As much stuff that has been made about the Carson, Chad yelling at each other it happens during a game between team mates from time to time, the question now is what happens after.

The defense is where the huge problem is. I don't care who you are, if you lose 4-5 lb's then you are going to run into problems. If people can get healthy and stay healthy then they have a chance to be a decent defense, if they can't heal, then we are looking at a top five pick. A big problem at lb now is no matter who you pick up is not going to be that good, if they were good they wouldn't be on the waiver wire week 5 of the season.

That being said, if the team can regain its focus during the bye week, and come out strong then they could save the season. the only 2 teams in the AFC that look unstoppable are Indy and New England, and even Indys d is a little suspect. Of the teams that are left to play, there is not a team that you can look at and say, well they are going to roll the Bengals with no problem. If they come out on a roll, and stay healthy then it should be interesting, and then assuming Henery doesn't fuck up again he will be a big boost to the offense. It should be interesting to watch.

See I hate playing the who w-l game because you have no idea what may happen between now and 3 weeks down the road that could effect either team. This week Wille Parker could blow out his knee, which would make for a totally different team that the Bengals would play. And even with Parker the Steelers are not unbeatable.

After the bye we play KC, who has not been great this year, to me if we get healthy in the bye week, that is a VERY winnable game.

I agree. They just picked up Corey Mays to replace Lemar Marshall (who is out for the season). All the other LB's should be healthy by the time we play KC. Soooo....Jeanty, Brooks, and Johnson are starters, Schlegs, Jones, Miller, and Mays in reserve. Willie Anderson and Rudi Johnson should also be healthy by then. In other words, they won't have any excuses. If they can't get it done against a mediocre KC team with Hapless Herm at the helm, then they might as well start planning for draft day. On the other hand, if they can beat KC and Buffalo they basically survive the first half of the season at 3-5. After that they get Henry back and assuming everyone else stays healthy, the second half doesn't look very formidable. The Bengals have won 3 of the last 4 at Pitt, and Baltimore doesn't seem to play that well against us anymore. St. Louis is terrible and so is Miami. Arizona, Tennessee, Cleveland, and SF are all decent teams but not really playoff caliber. Also factor in getting Chris Perry back healthy (I know, stop laughing) and on paper this team could be on a big time roll at the end of the season. But all of this is contingent on them getting their heads out of their rear ends on defense. What are the chances? The KC game will tell us a lot. The season could go either way. We could get 11 wins or 5 wins. With this team, it's anyone's guess. You never know whether they will show up or just mail it in. :(
