Zurp

I have misplaced my pants.
I couldn't find a thread on this. I couldn't find a link to a story, either. I heard this on the radio (Rivals Radio - Sirius 123).

Akron is scheduled to play Army in Cleveland Browns Stadium on Labor Day weekend. "They" (I guess "they" are whoever is in charge of getting college games to Cleveland Browns Stadium) want to get an Ohio MAC team every year to play one of the three service academies (Army, Navy, Air Force) in Cleveland Browns Stadium. They want to market the game as the Patriot Bowl.

Sounds pretty cool to me, I guess. Anytime I can jump on the rapid to go see a college football game sounds pretty good. I'll probably be in Columbus that weekend, though.

Army to play Akron in 'Patriot Bowl'
Game will take place at Cleveland Browns Stadium

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Army will play Akron on Sept. 1 at Cleveland Browns Stadium in a game the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission has dubbed the Patriot Bowl.

The commission plans for the Patriot Bowl to be an annual event featuring a Mid-American Conference school from Ohio playing against Army, Navy or Air Force during Labor Day weekend at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

They should make it a weekend event... something like Thursday night ESPN game Bowling Green vs. Navy... Saturday Akron vs. Army and Monday Labor Day Toledo vs. Air Force. The Army-Ohio Labor Day Challange.

An "Ohio" MAC team. Way to leave half the conference out, MAC.
The MAC isn't putting this together. The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission is. Why would the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission want to get out of state teams to Cleveland to play the Service Academies? I seriously doubt that they will even have OU or Miami play in this game until they see what kind of numbers they can get out of Akron, BGSU, and Toledo.
