I want to mention that I did not actually see the game because my ABC didn't broadcast it but I watched the gamecast and tell me if im wrong but it looks like we were only throwing quick passes that amount to about 4 yards a piece. I was under the impression that our best asset on offense is the speed of our recievers so why is it that we have not sent them deep or just given them a quick pass to the sideline. I know it's not that they have stopped producing because everytime Ginn or Holmes touches the ball on special teams they go for 30 yards. I thought maybe against Miami that we didnt want to show to much to Texas, I thought with Texas we had short fields to work with all day and had no opportunities, and now im doubting it's not to reveal to much to Iowa. Our defense and special teams are storybook. Our offense has as much talent as any team in the nation. Why is it that we are tip toeing over San Diego State while Texas Tech is putting up 80.

I want to say that I think we would beat Texas a good 7 out of 10 times and that if we play like we did this week we will beat Iowa and everyone else on the schedule. Howevere I can't help but feel that we have a better, at least offense than what we have been displaying.

I know I might be thinking about this a little to much but if this keeps up I don't see a reason for anybody playing offense to sign with us.

I knew this family that was pretty well off and had a really nice house in town. They had a fenced in back yard and had always liked greyhounds. They went out and got two beautiful purebreds that had a family history of racing success. These animals were spectacular...so sleek and you could just see in their eyes that they could run like the wind. But, in this family's back yard was a fountain, a gazebo, a garden pond, and lots of beautiful landscaping involving trees and bushes. Those poor dogs just never seemed to have a place to stretch their legs and do what came natural for them. It would have been nice if they knew somebody who lived out in the country that they could take the dogs out and let them run around once in a while.

TG one TD

Who had TG for1 TD after 3 games. The given is he isn't a route runner but still..throw him the ball...His lack of production is in his head and now he jukes and dances on every touch..Use your speed look for the opening and go...Note to TS and JT the QB draw works better after you complete a few downfield passes..

Hey Artillery that is a very good point.

One thing I don't get is why the lack of the big play from our offense, I don't think they have had a play over 40 yds. all year. Running or passing. They need to get their shit together b4 this week.

  • Leach is an offensive minded coach. His scheme is, in all likelyhood, simply better conceived. Additionally, he and his team are completely committed to it. They have experience executing it, which counts for a lot.
  • Tech will put up 80 because Leach is willing to put up 80+ on anyone, anytime. Tressel would call off the dogs before he hit 80.
  • The talent at Tech is underestimated. They've been pretty successful recruiting WRs and QBs lately. (I wouldn't be surprised if Jarrett Hicks is drafted higher than Holmes)
  • Classical physics break down as you approach Lubbock, TX. Pretty easy to put up 80 when Newton's laws don't apply. :wink2:

He'll come around, just give him time.
Like we all did last year for Zwick, but if Troy does not start to perform it might be time to look in to one of the young gunz.........well Boeckman is not really that young now is he?

There were years we put up 70 or 80 against the Rices and Pitts of the world too...and then we fell flat on our face when the going got tough.

I am as critical of the offense as anyone at times, but give me a gutsy team, battle-tested in close games, over a team that runs 80 up on a I-AA school any day.

I've been thinking about this since Saturday...

All of us are really disappointed in the passing game, including myself...
The announcers picked Troy as our player of the game, so we must be missing something, right? Looking at the world through scarlet lenses?

...nah, I don't think so, Troy needs to read the defense, I'm fine with most of the playcalling though...without the goal line fumble and with an unnecessary score at the end we have a blowout on our hands

Also don't forget a couple dropped passes and a missed block here or there and we are on our way to put up more points.

There are deeper routes we are running and were open on Saturday, but Troy was not making the correct reads. He was definetly looking to get rid of the ball and or run.

Bingo - Troy Smith doesn't seem to have the patience to let the deep routes develop. He would rather tuck the ball and run. Maybe because he feels he is rusty he would rather gain the 3-5 yards on his scramble. Remember he learned from the best at not waiting for the deep routes to develop, Craig Krenzel.

Hopefully Troy with a full game under his belt and going into Iowa two full weeks of practice as the #1 that rust will be gone and he will not skip anymore passes.
