Outstanding Christmas Decoration or Worst Idea Ever?

There is a home in a neighborhood near me that does the whole "dancing lights to music" thing and the owner happens to have his amateur radio broadcast license as well. Instead of pissing off all of the neighbors with loud music every night, he had the music broadcast on an FM radio station that only reached about 150 ft from the house. He puts a sign at the entrance of the neighborhood tell people to tune to the station before the get to his house. It is all static until you turn down his street, then the music starts as you approach his place. Really neat set-up. If he did it this year, I'll post a video of it later.

That's cool. I've seen some TV shows on over-the-top Christmas houses where they've had the music on radio. It's gaining popularity with the techno-savvy decorators.

Radio's a thoughtful thing to do--I like Christmas music a lot, but I also like to choose when and if I listen to it.

There's a house a couple blocks from me now that isn't up to Paw Paw standards, but it's usually pretty elaborate. One of my daughter's friends lived by this place, and she told me they had taken to referring to their Christmas-happy neighbors as "The Griswolds"--they had to buy extra-heavy blinds for their windows so they could sleep in darkness. Haven't been by this year, but I'll see if I can get a photo to post of them in all their tacky resplendence. :)

I know of no in-laws who've ever visited them from out of state, but then again, I do live several blocks away...and not downwind.

Police called after ‘Cousin Eddie’ holiday display spooks neighbor

Police in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, were called to the scene of a man allegedly exposing himself outside a home — only to find out it was simply an elaborate tribute to a beloved Christmas movie.

When police arrived on the scene on Wednesday, Dec. 21, they were relieved to learn that no crime was occurring that day in the small city about 20 miles south of Louisville: It was just a mannequin belonging to a “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” movie super-fan, as local Fox affiliate WDRB-TV reported.

A dispatcher in Shepherdsville described the scene as that of “a male standing outside. He is naked. He has a robe covering part of his body. He is exposing himself, and he has a hose between his legs.”

When officers got there, they did not find a man in a robe exposing himself. They did not find a man at all.

Instead, they found a mannequin dressed as “Cousin Eddie,” the foul-mouthed character played by Randy Quaid in the 1989 film.
