It really faked the shit out of wisconsin.
One Iowa player was all over it, but he couldn't wrap him up. If there is ever a time to make the tackle, that was it.

Edit: Florida 31 Iowa 24...onside kick with 1:24...perfect fucking onside kick!

Greenway flagged for offsides, incorrectly. Spielman is laying it on the refs heavily. Second kick, Florida recovers. Stadium is booing.

Can we just add Conf USA officials to the Sunbelt School of The Blind as "unqualified" for Bowl game refereeing? This isn't the first blown call by the CUSA Zebras in this game.

Spielman is spot on in calling it the way it is. Spot on in calling it with emotion - it is bad, even if you are looking in as a neutral fan.

Like scUM, Iowa is the victim of TERRIBLE officiating today. From the running into the kicker call (which was just an acting job) to the personal foul call right before halftime to the "unconscionable" offsides call on the onside kick, those officials put on a display of incompetence that is breathtaking.

Spielman: "This is unconscionable!" (said that a few times)

and then..."I'm sorry, but these refs cannot keep up with the speed of the game!"

The difference between the refs in this game and the Michigan game is that in the Michigan game, the refs made blatantly bad calls for both teams throughout the game. They were uniformly bad, and therefore more fair. These refs jobbed Iowa only, throughout the game. Their missed calls led to a Florida TD at the end of the 1st half, kept Iowa down to a FG on their last drive (12 men on the field is not a tough one to call!), and blew one of the best onside kicks you'll ever see, and called that last phantom penalty on the best player on the whole field. For shame.

it makes me sick to see the refs take away a game like that from all of those players out there, and the seniors in their last game. its not even if Iowa would have ended up going down and winning the game or not, to not give them a shot and to take away plays like that is sickening.

Florida also had 12 men on the field on that last FG drive for Iowa, but it was not called.

Dude, Spielman was still going off on the refs when they switched off the air. Hard to believe the Big Ten got two of these crews (hopefully, that's all) this year...you can bet the Bowlpeople will be hearing about this from the conference officials any time now. Horrible.

Who decides which conference refs these games? It's like they've never seen football before.

It is done by committee under the auspice of the NCAA. Great emphasis placed on neutrality of crew assignment.

Perhaps they need to establish some true rating system to weed out the red-tipped cane crews.

Feedback on all game crews is given to the conference, if this is already part of the selection process then they need to stiffen the requirements for competency. If it is not part of the selection process then they need to make it central to the same. And, they should not put a lower conference crew in charge of matters for "premier" games. Finally, Sunbelt should be told hat, NO, you have demonstrated a complete inability to train and keep your crews up to speed on rules, and game management - no crews from the Sunbelt, period.
