OSU Students, help recruit?

I have not heard from the compliance office since my email but I did find something interesting from Lamb's chat on BN.....

Any word on Coach Matta planning any "special" things for the dynamic duo? Perhaps something to top the "WANTED: Conley" signs that Wake had around campus. Does Matta and staff do any of those type of things for recruits? Kyle S. Lamb (Apr 27, 2005 2:31:07 PM)
Most of that special treatment you speak of is not permitted by NCAA rules. I understand that much of what the students down at Wake Forest were doing, was trying to be cleaned up ahead of time by the Wake staff. Coach Matta will do everything he can on the visit, but signs and such with their names on it would probably be minor violations
That is interesting...to say the least.

Also, I have been told a member of BP has contacted a member of Block O and they are interested in doing something that is allowed by NCAA rules.

I have emailed the compliance office to explain our proposed signs. If I don't get an answer by tomorrow afternoon, I will give them a call.
I finally got a answer from the compliance office....

Thank you for your email. We have been made aware of the situation that occurred at Wake Forest and reviewed it with the Big Ten Conference office. The NCAA has said that it would not be permissible for a sign bearing the recruit’s name, picture, etc., to be displayed if the athletics department arranged the activity. They have also stated that when a member institution becomes aware that such an activity has occurred, the institution is required to take affirmative steps to stop the activity.

Based on that information, we have communicated with Block O’s advisor so that she can educate that group to let them know that such signs would be impermissible and jeopardize the integrity of our institution.

Thank you for checking on this situation and feel free to contact our office if additional questions arise.

Does this mean:

It's illegal if:

a) the athletic dept arranges the "post signs for recruits" activity
b) the athletic dept arranges the recruiting visit, and there are signs up not made by them

Not sure what it exactly means, but at this point, I think Wake may have had a minor, minor violation.

It means the athletic dept cant organize the sign making. if some retard on the 5th floor of a dorm hangs a sign out his window that says "i heart conley" and the athletic dept didnt know about it theres nothing they can do (which is why nothing will happen to wake). if the athletic dept finds out about it they have to make them take it down.

I'm going to, I just want to know what the rule is... and that is a very ambiguous statement to novice eyes like mine.
Welcome to the wonderful world of NCAA compliance. Now you know why tOSU has a team of lawyers working full time to deal with this.
