Alot of it comes down to maturity. Maturity with the Defensive coodinator (hopefully he'll cuts it). Maturity of the QB, the O-line, and the DB's. That's why they call it growing pains and oh how much it hurts hahaha . Don't worry to much Brutus2002, we may go through some major growing pains this year but we'll be back in contention.

If we can stop Wisconsin running game and make their QB have to win the game for them, then we have a very good chance of winning. Our defense has the talent to do it. Their Defense is damn good too though, we'll see.
Justin is going to have to have a great game and at least manage the clock a little better, At least have some good drives for us to have a chance. At least get a few more 3rd down conversions and Wow our offense has to do so much better on 1st downs. I have no idea why they abandoned passing to the TE's. That has had such good results.
Whatever the outcome, it will be a great game. It always is right up too the end.

This game was either one of two things:

1. We got caught with our pants down looking ahead to Wisconsin.

2. We just are not that good this year. The real question this year has been is Ohio State Reloading or Rebuilding. Last night it looked like we were rebuilding.

I hope it is option Number 1. Last year we didn't play very well for our first two games after the bye week, and we didn't play well this year after our bye week. It could be that maybe JT needs to review his bye week activities and see if something needs to be changed. I would tend to believe it is a combination of the night game, 1st game after the bye week, and we were over looking what seemed to be an inferior opponent. I would like to see Wisconsin pay for their night game bullshit on Saturday. However if the reason for our loss is option number two, then we are in for a long season. We will see next weekend, because one thing is for sure, the buckeyes will be pissed, inspired, and at home, and they will not be looking ahead to anyone.

If we don't change the offense and spread it out we are gonna get sand pounded in out asses. If Tressel think NW was physical he better watch the fucking rest of the schedule because some teamns are improving. We are not gonna be able to run the ball on Wisconsin. I hope the coaches realize this and try to incorporate a short passing game and the TE's.

I don't think I have seen OSU use the spread offense as much as we did against NW. How many times has an OSU team run the spread on the 5 yard line with first and goal over the last 3 years? Not many that I can think of.

I do believe we can run the ball with Pittman and Joe. I also think that we could use Pittman in some middle screens and draw plays very effectively. JZ through the ball to the tight end more than a few times last night. He hit Nicol in the hands on a nice touch pass that he dropped.

wisconsin and ohio state match up against each other in a manner that cries for a 17-13 final score......

if we can find a mike to smack their fullback in the mouth over and over again....the bucks win.....if not....wisconsin runs it down our throats......

BRI I DON'T THINK 5 WR AT THE 5 IS A GOOD IDEA. I MEANT TO GET THE BALL DOWN THE FIELD. WE MIGHT WANT TO USE THE TE OR PASS TO THE BACK AT THE 5. WTF IS WRONG WITH THROWING TO HAMBY!!!

We scored 10 points in the first half. 7 of those points came from a punt return so we only scored 3 points on offense in the firts half. The second half we scored 17 points on offense. The reason we scored 17 was because we opened up the offense. If we would have opened up the offense from the beginning we would have outscored NW despite playing horribly on defense. If we would have scored 17 offensive points each half plus the PR thats 41 points.

I know Bri it's a should have, could have, would have statement, but I belive it's true. What good is Ginn, Lyons, Childress, Holms, Dukes, Haw, Pittman, and Hall doing us on the bench...not a damn thing. You can have all the talent in the world but it isn't doing you any good on the bench.

Tressel better realize we have an average running game, and a good but not great defense. We will improve on D and maybe the running, but my point is use your strengths until your weaknesses are improved.

I'm getting this feeling that we may have to shoot it out with some teams this year. Unless we come out firing we are gonna lose. Look at the Fiesta Bowl last year we came out firing and should have led at halftime 42-7 if Krenzel would have hit wide open receivers for td's.

My point is this year he cannot play Tressel-ball. We have too young of a Defense and we don't have a great running game. I will admit it works if you have a great back and awesome defense but we have neither right now.

This week come out and and throw to the TE, take some deep shots early, and run some mis-direction plays. Wisconsin has an agressive defense that we might be able to expose with our players, but running Lydell every 1st down and having 3rd and longs are gonna play into Wisconsins hands.

Don't disagree with you Brutus. I really wish we would have stretched the field more against NW. They had been known to give up the big play.

The four wide on 3rd and short with the stop routes by all three on one side could have easily been a stop and go the third time around. I kept waiting for it, but obviously it never happend.

burn baby burn.....

After thinking about it, I am beginning to think that the problem w/ the running game is more of a line thing-Ross was just exacerbating the situation. Pittman will be a nice back, but he is not a monster stud who can get yards by himself, ala Clarett. He looked better than Ross last night, but that is not saying much. We didn't start rolling on the ground when he came in........

Brutus2002,
I don't mean to contradict what your saying because I'd love nothing more than to see us successfully pass all over the feild but Coach Tressel doesn't have enough confidence in Justin Zwick to let him open it up yet. Justin is still making some young mistakes and trying to force the ball into bad situations and everytime it seems Coach Tressel may losen the belt straps and open it up , Justin makes a boneheaded young mistake. That happens with a new QB. You have to have a successful Running game too though to be successful in this day and age too. Coach Tressel has to keep trying to push for that running game and trying to solve that problem of why its doing so bad. I will agree with you that he needs to get back to his TE's a little more. I don't know why he isn't see that, maybe NW took that away from us. Justin just has to learn to pick apart the defenses a little better before you'll see a game like that though. It sucks but oh well .... just gotta wait til JZ matures a little more .

If we play a conservative offense against Teams like Purdue we are gonna get smoked. We don't have the defense or the running game to be conservative. We will go 8-3 at best if we continue to call conservative offensive plays like we have. We need to keep our defense off the field. Going three and out because of conservative play calling will kill us.

I was listening to the sports brunch on 1460 and Rudzinski brought up a great point. Everytime we had a long scoring drive we stopped them on defense. Everytime we went three and out they scored. The proof is in the pudding three and outs will cost us games this year. We better get creative fast.

its funny....i was throwing out old papers today and noticed this tidbit...

"ohio state overcomes mistakes to win 26-9"

this is versus cincy obviously.....ive said it one hundred times this year already....the only thing the offense does well is throw....if it means a turnover or two....who gives a fuck.....at least in the first game and a half the buckeyes offense was dictating the flow of the game....and ross could run....

until jt/blowman buttoned it all up......the second half vs. marshall.....and ever since....

I think the key to the game is simple. Line of Scrimmage........ we need to win up front. I agree with the 3rd down remarks though. I don't think the season is go'n to fall apart but I think we definatly need to get it into gear soon!

but the down side is that last year berstein (fb wiscy) just abused pagac on iso blocks last year....i mean tore our linebacker to shreds....that was the same kind of no answer that we encountered with nw's spread last night....

danimal and the boar hunter need to be studs saturday...if they man up...and i think they will...the bucks roll.....

Brutus2002 I am agreeing with you BUT Coach Tressel will not open it up until Justin Zwick dictates that he can handle opening up the book, and doesn't try to force the ball. I would love to see Coach Tressel let him loose and learn by trial and error (even though that may also backfire and ruin the kid) . As a fan, I'd rather go down that way than not doing anything on offense. I have no idea why we don't try to do more high percentage short timing passes or throw to the TE's more. My point was is that seeing Coach Tressel will NOT do that. He will keep his belt straps tight and not open up until Justin proves that he can handle the full offense and take charge. That was my point and thats what I think we are going to have to live with until Justin matures. When that happens the opposiong Linebackers and DB's are going to have to lay back instead of stacking the box and forcing Justin to beat us all on his own, which is so smart of our opponents to be doing because he is so YOUNG. YES it sucks !!!!!! Yes it totally may not happen until next year. Hopefully it will happen enough next week and especially on the last game of the year.
I sure wish we had a potent offensive passing game like we did under Walt Harris and with Bobby Hoying for that short period of time. I feel your pain brotha .. but it will get better !!!

He let him lose in the second half last night and scored 17 points!!! OUR RUNNING GAME ISN'T GONNA SCORE 17 POINTS FOR US ANYTIME SOON. I guess we get agressive when we are getting our asses kicked but are conservative when we are up by 7-10 points.

Once again we don't have the running game or defense to play tressel ball this year, maybe next year but not this year.
