OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

yuk! yuk! Looks like spell check works. Exactly correct in terms of number of letters, Thump....was kinda going for meaning...trying to use a metaphor? Anyway, IF all those things happen, tOSU will have a good team....

Welp. Kennard Davis is visiting Ole Miss, so now I would guess OSU is not going to get him after all, as OSU hoops NEVER wins recruiting battles with the SEC over transfers. I wonder at what point do we stop accepting constantly losing recruiting battles to SEC programs that aren't blue bloods? I don't doubt that Davis will get $1M to transfer to the school of his choice.

According to 11W posts we are in contact with Cade Tyson. Major WOOF if that's our last portal get.

Guy totally bombed in his step up to competition at UNC last year.

Might as well just roll with Colin White in that role at that point.

Yeah, I'm not hoping for Cade Tyson. If he couldn't cut it on a UNC team that barely made the tourney, he won't be any better here.

Actually some are saying Miami is the team OSU has to beat out for Kennard Davis. Ole Miss just got a commitment today from AJ Storr (remember him?), who is fresh off of a season of top dollar NIL pay for underwhelming at Kansas. I'm skeptical that Ole Miss has the juice to have AJ Storr and Kennard Davis both, but it is Chris Beard we're talking about. Miami, they do have a new coach Lucas so they are probably looking to make a splash this season.

I hate to say it, but the longer things are going on, it looks like OSU will have to come up with a Plan B (or C?) option for the SF starter. Plan B would probably involve exploring the European ranks (ugh). It's not a good position to be in at this point, but I'm worried OSU may have over-committed NIL resources to retain some of their starters, which may keep them from having the funds to get a true starting-caliber SF. You really do have to outsmart the opposition to be successful recruiting at a program at OSU right now - it seems like they're just not going to outbid the SEC and programs like Miami for players like Kennard Davis, even if they need someone like him. This is where they really need a shrewd GM to manage the NIL pool in order to maximize the talent - perhaps the House v. NCAA case will help OSU hoops somewhat as they clearly have not figured out how to get great success in the portal era.

Sean Stewart is in the transfer portal, so we're seeing more forwards connected with OSU now because a spot has opened up there.
Starters getting in at the last second is starting to annoy me. Last year Okpara now this.

If you want to get in the portal explore that's fine. But the I'm coming back never mind now you need to replace me when options have dwindled is rough.

I think Stewart is replaceable, it sucks to lose him this late but better him than Thornton Royal or Mobley

Okpara was far worse, as Felix released a social media post claiming he was coming back, and changed his mind late. Sean Stewart didn't lie to us, he didn't tell us he was coming back, he just waited until the last minute. I think maybe NIL is incentivizing these guys to hang in until they can get the last dollar they are entitled to and then leave. Let's be honest, OSU wasn't going to break the bank for a top-tier big man transfer regardless of when Stewart entered the portal.
