OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Just remembering how Tanner Holden averaged 20 ppg at Wright State, people thought he was going to be big-time for OSU. He averaged less than 4 ppg in 1 year, and then transferred to go back to Wright State. It's very easy to overestimate how much production you are going to get from guys through the portal - obviously it's tough because you've got to keep the guys you have coming back and get them enough NIL, then have enough to build around them through the portal, and clearly some teams are paying premiums to get some of these guys to transfer.

The guys from the small small time schools seem to be very hit or miss when transferring to bigger schools. It's all about how they adjust when they get here.

I woulda rather had Camden personally, but it's a toss up if either guy translates to a higher level.

I do! I do! Always a crap shoot. Diebs got two 5*s from the portal, and one panned out, the other meh. And he's gotten a couple from 'lesser leagues', and he's less than 50% on those. So far, the best three players were recruits. Methinks Diebs has to go all in this year, or the AD is going to have 'the talk' with him. Which would be a shame in my opinion. I'd look at McDuff before Diebs, but my wife says I'm prejudiced. Go Bucks!

We have a solid core with Thornton, Royal & Mobley. Mobley I think will be stronger this season, he kind of hit the wall down the stretch I think his first college season wore on him.

We weren't going to get top portal guys, that's just reality. But it could be a lot worse than Tilly and Noel. If those 2 can be even just averageish B1G players we probably comfortably make the tournament this year.

I'd much rather take chances with Tilly/Noel types than keep digging for former 5* from blue blood programs who were glad to see them leave.

Amen if we're praying. Fuck yeah if we're not!

It shouldn't be hard to replace Bradshaw - he just wasn't consistent, and he was not strong/tough enough to handle the job in the post defensively & on the glass which was what this team really needed. I think right now the hope is the frontcourt players they are adding will bring some more toughness and fit better within the offense.
I think overall improvement by Stewart will bring a ton to next year's team alone. If Mobley and Royal also make that jump along with Bruce, the starters will be quite good in my opinion. What they have to help when fouls and shooting become a problem is the biggest issue because those things will be a problem guaranteed.

I think people are sleeping on Bynum. Not saying he's going to be a freshman superstar or anything but I think he will contribute more than most people are thinking

This would be a huge get. If we land him i'd call this portal haul very successful in terms of realistic outcomes.
Yeah, I would agree if they get Davis, AND RETAIN THE STARTERS, it will be a successful portal outcome this offseason. We saw last year when Okpara put out the statement to say he's returning, and then entered the portal and transferred to Tennessee anyway, it's not over until it's over - make that double true for guys who have been noncommital. I believe they invested most of their NIL resources in retaining the key players, partly because last year they lost 2 starters to transfer that they needed to keep. There are still 13 days left I believe that players can enter the portal. We will need to wait to see how things play out, but it's looking like we will benefit overall from the portal this offseason.

The biggest word in the English language is "if". Believe it must be placed with tOSU basketball team. If we get.....if they perform... etc. Yeah, me too, can the transfers rise to the level of the B10? Agree with the above that right now, tOSU isn't going to get the cream, as they're looking to be the missing piece of a Natty, and tOSU is a longshot for that at best. But here's hoping...Go Bucks!
