OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Brian Snow has said on a couple different team boards (but not on an OSU one, for whatever reason) that we're a top 2 contender for Jalen Bridges along with Xavier. Kind of mind-boggling as he's a wing forward/combo forward and we project to have absolutely no shortage of those between Jallow, Ahrens, Sueing, Gaffney, Liddell, and then Etzler in 2021, but there you go. I like Bridges a lot and his shooting skill could be something that our team will really need, but at the same it's hard not to see that possible addition sort of just adding to an area of the court already overstuffed.

Unless we oversign, I don't really see a big man commitment happening in the early signing period unless we really hit the ball out of the park with Kalkbrenner on his upcoming unofficial. We miss on him and I think the most likely timeframe for getting a big is in the spring. Could end up dipping into the grad transfer market if we don't like our other options at that point.

We made the top 5 for Ware and he visits the end of the month. probably prefers uk, but might want to go somewhere he can stand out right away. The way holtmann is recruiting pf's, I get the feeling he is fine playing a couple of pf's instead of a c. Its something I;ve been advocating sinces thad's time here since top centers who are college ready are hard to come by.

very good-looking 2021 prospect here. underrated as a 3-star (131st per 247). think roper will move up in time. looks ambidextrous. shoots right-handed but is supremely confident going left, finishing left, and even passing left. more of a shooting guard who tends toward a 2/1 versus branham's 2/3. from a player development perspective, think he'd do well to expand the pg aspect of his game.

like others, I have been somewhat confused at the offers that have been extended, specifically in the '20 class. Is Holt signalling maybe a style of play change after kaleb moves on? seems we are gearing up to have a lot of wings and combo forwards, so it seems we will probably looking at a team that can switch alot on defense and a more free flowing offense. It doesn't look like he is completely abandoning the idea of having traditional centers on roster but it seems those traditional centers are going to be to match up defensively with teams that have an offensive post center.

and a question about all these offers. are they all "committable" offers?

In recruiting, it’s always a major point to try to keep talent in state. Not allowing players to go to rival schools, and help beat you down the road.

Ohio is a home of plenty of athletes, in an abundance of sports.

Prep Hoops released their new rankings on Tuesday, and the top four ranked players in the 2021 class all hold Ohio State offers.

Those go as follows:

  1. Malaki Branham
  2. Kalen Etzler
  3. Meechie Johnson
  4. Logan Duncomb
Malaki Branham is one the Buckeyes would love to have. A skilled two guard that holds some high major offers, and is a top 50 player nationally.

Kalen Etzler is the first 2021 prospect to commit, and he did that earlier in the year giving Ohio State his verbal.

The Convoy Crestview player is a skilled power forward with above average athleticism, that will go a ways at the next level.

Meechie Johnson is battling a recovery from an ACL tear at the moment, but is undoubtedly the top guard in Ohio. Former teammate of current Buckeye Alonzo Gaffney, there is some chemistry there already.

Johnson broke on to the scene scoring 50 in a game as freshman. Which, is a hard accomplishment for any player at any level. The Cleveland product can put the ball on a string, and get his own shot from anywhere.

Now, Logan Duncomb is an interesting one for Ohio State. This summer he has blown up more than any other Ohio product. Duncomb player well at the Ohio State team camp in June, earning the deserved offer.

Duncomb goes to basketball powerhouse Cincinnati Moeller, a talented program. A skilled Center that moves well and can stretch it at times.

Ohio State’s 2021 class, they will look to add a couple in-state players. One already being Etzler, they would be hopeful to add another or two. A class that is going to be very interesting for the Buckeyes.

That’s not to say Ohio State won’t eventually offer guys like Tyrese Hughey or EJ Farmer

With losing players like Xavier Simpson, Nick Ward, Jaxon Hayes, Ohio State will look to tighten up the state borders in recruiting.
