I'd wait until the freaking price of gold is down before I got one of those. Massively inflated prices. I thought I'd lost my UF ring (found it in my golf bag), and when I priced the thing, I was floored by what they were charging.

The percentage markup on (non costume) jewelery is probably the highest of anything we buy even gasoline or prescription drugs. The only good thing is that (as long as gold has value) it will always be worth someting.

Doesn't the the jeweler have some samples to look at?

FWIW, After I gradulated I bought a Gold Lance class ring from University Jewelers. I initially walked in Longs to buy one, I think they sold Balfours, couldn't get waited on; so I walked up the street to University Jewelers. I do think University Jewelers have went out of business; however other jewelers still sell Gold Lance.

Gold Lance - High School Class Rings - Welcome to Gold Lance

I am totally satisfied with the product and service from Gold Lance. I've had it resized couple times and actually remade once (replaced the red glassy stone which chipped with a diamond). Over the years I gotten more compliments on my class ring than anything else that I own.

the Balfour company hasnt been to campus with any sample rings. but i've called Balfour and asked if they know the size of it and the lady says "we dont have the actual dimensions of the ring. but do you know the size of our championship rings? it is around that size, just slightly smaller"
and Balfour is the only company that makes the official rings of the university now.

 "It's like this, only different." Not much help - you should really try and see some samples.
