OSU Alumni Magazine snafu!!

Thump

Hating the environment since 1994
  • Don't know if any of you noticed this but I was flipping through the latest OSU Alumni Mag and I believe on pg. 54 or 57 there's a picture of Antonio Pittman's TD run against Notre Dame and it shows Eddie George and Mike Doss in the background jumping up and down.

The picture says OSU RB Michael Pittman...........!!

I felt the need to voice my displeasure so I called their editing department yesterday morning and left a message that basically said as a Lifetime Alumni member I would hope that my dues would be better spent by hiring qualified editors. I proceeded to tell them that Michael Pittman was RB for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who attended Fresno St. University.

I explained to them that a correction in next months issue would be sufficient for correcting such an error.

Yeah I noticed that. Seems the quality of the Alumni Mag has gone down recently. How did you like the letters to the editors basiclly ripping on all the fans of Ohio State.

Gotta love our own Alumni Mag pushing the sterotype that all OSU football fans are a problem at games.

Also check the little bio of Lawrence Funderburke and tell me if you notice the error there as well.

Agree that the mag has gone downhill.

Yep, noticed all those errors as well. The letters to the editor were piss poor.

The letters from the Jan-Feb edition were interesting though, talking about what people from previous generations went through in order to attend OSU.

I checked the credit to make sure that Hayn was credited for the photo, which he was.

I sent a correction to the magazine a few months ago, and they e-mailed me back stating that they'd print my correction, and they never did.

Well, when I threaten to end my lifetime membership that may get their asses in gear.

I'm sure this mistake had been brought to their attention by many others besides me.

Do you still pay dues, or did you do a one-time payment (like I did) for the lifetime membership?

Are you referring to the one from Linda Dorff that complained about football getting too much attention at Ohio State and the arts, especially theatre, being ignored?

Or the one from C. Bradford Bevers who said he was ashamed of Ohio State because a student athlete talked smack to the Iowa football players as they went to the lockeroom at half time?

Or could it be the numerous letters about poor sportsmanship at the games? (Though a few of them were reasonable.)

It's hard to believe some of these people are Ohio State "fans".

I didn't read the letters to the editor, I will have to go back and do so. The problem, IMO, is that the alumni assoc. is basically bribing alumni to get the magazine by tying it to the ability to buy tickets. That said, the magazine is not written from a football fans perspective, even a though vast majority of the membership joined specifically for that reason. However, believe it or not, there are OSU alumni out there who hate football, and didn't care about it when they wereon campus-I work w/ a girl who is one of these people. Professional academic people are their own little clique, and don't really care about the role of sports in the university, or appreciate what they mean to most undergrads or alumni, they write from an academic perspective/bias.
BTW, I paid the one time fee, but on a payment plan-good deal.
