Who do you think should win?
Best Motion Picture of the Year
Black Swan
The Fighter
Inception
The Kids are All Right
The King's Speech
The Social Network
127 Hours
Toy Story 3
True Grit
Winter's Bone
I gotta give 'The Social Network' a slight nod over 'Black Swan' just because I think this is a movie that will stand up over time. Generational movie IMO. Will be associated with this decade like 'Wall Street' is the '80's.
Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role
Annette Bening (The Kids are All Right)
Nicole Kidman (Rabbit Hole)
Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone)
Natalie Portman (Black Swan)
Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine)
Portman is a no-brainer for me. Just mesmerizing in that movie.
Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
Javier Bardem (Biutiful)
Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network)
Colin Firth (The King's Speech)
James Franco (127 Hours)
Jeff Bridges (True Grit)
Gotta go with Firth slightly over Eisenberg. Mainly because if you watch Eisenberg in interviews, it's kinda like he was playing himself.
Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role
Christian Bale (The Fighter)
John Hawkes (Winter's Bone)
Jeremy Renner (The Town)
Mark Ruffalo (The Kids are All Right)
Geoffrey Rush (The King's Speech)
IMO, the real winner wasn't nominated, Andrew Garfield playing Eduardo in 'The Social Network' was amazing. That final confrontation scene with Zuckerburg sends shivers up my spine. But, Bale was phenominal in 'The Fighter' and should win if Garfield cannot.
Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role
Amy Adams (The Fighter)
Helena Bonham Carter (The King's Speech)
Melissa Leo (The Fighter)
Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit)
Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom)
Hailee Steinfeld and it aon't even close.
Achievement in Cinematography
Black Swan (Matthew Libatique)
Inception (Wally Pfister)
The King's Speech (Danny Cohen)
The Social Network (Jeff Cronenweth)
True Grit (Roger Deakins)
Achievement in Costume Design
Alice in Wonderland (Colleen Atwood)
I Am Love (Antonella Cannarozzi)
The King's Speech (Jenny Beaven)
The Tempest (Sandy Powell)
True Grit (Mary Zophres)
'Black Swan' was just a beautifully shot movie.
Achievement in Directing
Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan)
David O. Russell (The Fighter)
Tom Hooper (The King's Speech)
David Fincher (The Social Network)
Joel and Ethan Coen (True Grit)
This is tough to chose between Aronofsky and Fincher, but I have to give it to Fincher. He took a subject that on the surface doesn't seem like it would make for a really strong movie and made a riveting film.
Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score)
How to Train Your Dragon (John Powell)
Inception (Hans Zimmer)
The King's Speech (Alexandre Desplat)
127 Hours (A.R. Rahman)
The Social Network (Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross)
Not even close. 'The Social Neetwork' score is one of those rare instances where it stands out apart from the movie. Varies from haunting to somber to intense from track to track.
