Organization to the Buckeye Forum?

BuckeyeFlorida

Resident Science Dork
First off, thanks to everyone who plays a part in maintaining and operating BP! This is by far the best OSU site on the web and quite possibly the best college sports board period.

One suggestion for the main Buckeye football boards and I guess other boards as well. Although it's interesting and quite useful to have threads dedicated to each and every player on the rosters, they seem to overwhelm the front pages of the forum(s). Perhaps we could create a sub-forum within the forums to house the current player threads so that it would free up Page 1 for news articles, etc...?

Just a thought!

Why not have options under "Forum Tools"

Thus

Show All Player Threads
Show Without Player Threads
Show All Threads

I'd favor this over lumping former and current players in a separate section from Buckeyes Football (regardless of whether we call it Alumni et al, players past and former or some other name).

In order to un-clutter the main football forum, I recently added a "College Football" sub-forum for non-OSU news and discussion. I agree that adding a second sub-forum for player threads would also be a big help in organizing the main forum. I have no problem with creating the forum and moving the threads if the rest of the admins agree that it would be a good idea.

I disagree, I'm not sure we need more subforums about OSU football. If anything, maybe we don't need to post every little article mentioning every single player, especially the ones that rehash what has already been posted. Just my opnion.

Good idea, but it would require custom coding. With Clarity's illness I doubt it would happen anytime in (even) the distant future. Plus there would be a cost associated.

My personal preference would be a Current/Alumni Player subforum contained within the Buckeye Football forum. I think we also need to limit the number of forums we have at BP. The more we create, the more difficult navigation becomes and the more staff is needed to oversee new areas. Heck, there are a few forums I almost never visit anymore ... just don't have the time. I'm still 'down' for whatever the admins decide collectively.

Unfortunately, we don't have any way to prevent people from posting "every little article mentioning every single player." It would be nice, though....

Good idea, imo. Anyone think the posts from this new forum should appear on the recent posts section of the main forum page?

My beef is that sometimes the news gets lost because it never gets its own headline within the forum. I don't read every single player thread, in large part because I don't really care about all the fluff articles and the "breaking news" about how much somebody can bench press. It took me a while to find out Marcel Frost had been suspended, because all I saw was that his thread was getting new posts. Sure, I could've checked the thread, but doing that, I'd say I get 10 bench press articles for every real news item I find. I wish that more often, the titles of thread reflected the current discussion contained within them.

One possible solution to that is to create a "Buckeye Headline News". Whenever someone posts a substantive news item (not a fluff piece), they (or someone else) post a link in the Buckeye Headline News thread to the player thread.

Just a thought.

I'd also like to see the College Football posts appear there.

I think we should hold off on merging the current players with the alumni forum, I think the splitting off of the college football forum may adequately un-clutter the main forum.
