He will shatter all the state rushing records by the time he graduates. Stewart was named to the Tacoma News Tribune 2003 All-state football team and was the 2003 Seattle Times State 3A Player of the Year, as well as a first-team all-state selection. He rushed for 2,609 yards and 36 touchdowns as a junior. He was the 2003 Tacoma News Tribune 'Nugget in Waiting'. Stewart bench presses 350 pounds, squats 575 and has a vertical jump of 37-inches.
Stewart:
"I have good lower body strength and balance. That's a key to my running. I'm a good power back. I still want to get faster and work on my agility. I'd like to avoid tackles easier and make more moves."
Scouting Report:
The first thing that jumps out at you with Stewart is his size. Stewart shouldn’t be described as a blazer but he has good speed and quickness for his size. The second impressive attribute with regards to Stewart, and perhaps his best attribute, is his balance. For a 218-pounder he has amazing balance, footwork and agility. He finds a way to stay on his feet after the initial contact by the defense. Balance is an important attribute when evaluating running backs. Stewart runs with good power and can be a very punishing runner at times.

I run inside and then bounce to the outside. I'm not afraid to take on linebackers and go one on one with them because of my strength." -Timberline running back Jonathan Stewart</TD></TR><TR bgColor=#ffffff><TD>"The more I see him, the more in awe of him I am. He's so good right now but the scary thing is he can get even better. As he continues to grow and mature more, he's going to be incredible and he already is now." -Timberline coach Kevin Young

Olympia Timberline (WA) RB <!--Default NodeId For Jonathan Stewart is 788739,2004-->Jonathan Stewart (5-10, 218, 4.6) favors <!--Default NodeId For Oregon is 732,2004-->Oregon (camp), <!--Default NodeId For Washington State is 738,2004-->Washington State (camp) and <!--Default NodeId For California is 552,2004-->California. All offered. Stewart, TheInsiders.com's #1 RB, hopes to hear from <!--Default NodeId For Florida is 570,2004-->Florida (childhood fave), Florida St, <!--Default NodeId For Tennessee is 577,2004-->Tennessee, <!--Default NodeId For Michigan State is 409,2004-->Michigan State and <!--Default NodeId For Ohio State is 412,2004-->Ohio State. He says that if any of those schools offered they would be among his favorites.
"Oregon, <!--Default For Washington is to ignore-->Washington State and Cal have been recruiting me the hardest," said Stewart. "They've been sending me a lot of information about their schools."
"I think Oregon has a really nice campus. I like the way it's set up and I like the way the athletic facilities are set up. I also like the area around the school because it reminds me of home.
"I like Washington St because it's in a real college town. Everyone knows who you are there and they give you a lot of support. It's a really good feeling.
"I also got to know the coaches at Washington State a little better. They all seem really cool and they don't put up fronts.
"I also like Cal. They've come a long way in the past few years. They've also got a really good coach (<!--Default NodeId For Jeff Tedford is 897739,2003-->Jeff Tedford).
"I'll base my decision on the area around the school, the campus and the academics. I don't know what I want to major in yet, but academics are still important. "I'm not sure when I'm going to make my decision. I'm leaving it up to God. My parents don't have any preferences either. They just want me to go wherever God wants me to go.
