Oregon RB Jonathan "Snoop" Stewart (official thread)

what are our realistic chances with this kid? i was shocked to see him as the #1 RB on espn the other day.

Well before we have any kind of chance we need to offer the kid. You would think Ohio State would be attractive to any running back, especially considering the O-line classes we've put together the last couple of years, not to mention the running back tradition. That said, most of the gurus feel it will be extremely difficult to get him out of the west.

in Stewart's case, gurus seem to be very biased to Pac-10.. he does live right in the middle of Wash, Wash St, Oregon and Oregon St country... so he has grown up with all collegiate coverage in his circle being about those schools... but little blips and blurbs from Stewart definitely state he would seriously consider tOSU... without an offer, he realistically won't reveal his true feelings.. pride.. a stud isn't going to say he wants to go somewhere that hasn't offered him... there continues to be a 'difference of opinion' as to whether he has qualified.. which is almost certainly the item holding up his offer...

Stewart chose for AA game

Jonathan Stewart, Timberline's sensational senior running back, has been nominated to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl football game that will be played Jan. 15, 2005, in San Antonio, Tex.
Three soldiers presented Stewart the nomination at Timberline's practice Thursday.

"It's a blessing," Stewart said at practice. "It's an honor to be recognized like this."

Stewart will be notified at the end of the season if he has been selected to play in the all-star game. The game, featuring 78 of the nation's top players, will be televised by NBC.

"It's a huge honor," Timberline coach Kevin Young said. "And it's a deserving honor."

Stewart, who needs 437 yards to break the state's career high school rushing record, is considered to be the top high school running back in the country by numerous publications and recruiting experts.

"I've watched the game on TV the past couple of years and thought this might happen," Young said about Stewart's selection. "It's exciting to see him get that kind of national recognition."

Stewart has not decided where he will play college football next year. That selection just got harder. The University of Florida offered him a scholarship Wednesday, joining a growing list of offers.

"He's wide open," Young said about Stewart's choice of school. "He's just taking a look at who's going to offer him a scholarship."

Tennessee offered him a scholarship earlier in the week.

Stewart had said his top five choices were Oregon, Washington State, California, Ohio State and Michigan.

Young said he gets two or three calls a day from coaches enquiring about Stewart.

"Coaches can call him at home now too, so he's getting all kinds of calls," Young said. "I hope he narrows down his choices pretty soon."

Stewart will take an official visit to Washington State on Sept. 18 when the Cougars host Idaho.

SPECIAL TO THE POST-INTELLIGENCER

TUMWATER -- Timberline's Jonathan Stewart rushed for 161 yards on 15 carries and scored four touchdowns in a 41-19 victory over Pac-9 rival Black Hills last night at Tumwater Stadium.

But despite the gaudy statistics -- that's 10.7 yards per carry in just three quarters of play -- it was when Stewart didn't have the ball that he made the biggest difference in the game.

Stewart, who also returns kicks, posed such a threat to the Wolves that they did all they could to keep their punts away from the senior. Twice a Wolves' punt fell inside the 40-yard line and the Blazers (2-0) used both opportunities to score.

"I guess it's smart," said Stewart, who is potentially one game away from breaking the all-time Washington state career rushing record. "If they kick the ball to me I'm going to run it back."

The Wolves (1-1) tried tempting Stewart on their second punt of the night, getting off a 44-yard punt that he received on the 12-yard line. He ran it back 88 yards before it was called back because of a blocking penalty.

if we've moved into his top three.. without a visit to the shoe plus still have not presented an offer... this has to look good next mth (Oct) after he retakes his SATs and presumably an offer can be presented...

then you tell him.. "Go left behind Boone.. or Go right behind Bemoll.. You choose"

Good point. Also, how about, "Go right behind Bemoll and follow Boone as he's pulling..."? Just might be a good combo...

Multi-talented ..

played lead role in "Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" school play

"On the field, everyone knows about Stewart. He's the linchpin to Timberline's football success, a running back who chews up yardage in bunches. He's about to break the state rushing record. He's about to receive a full scholarship to one of the premier colleges in the country. He's a star at 17 years old. But off the field, he's just a kid. "

Hopefully that schollie comes from 43210 zip code
