Oregon RB Jonathan "Snoop" Stewart (official thread)

Jonathan, we NEED you in Scarlet & Gray! PLEASE come to Columbus.

You will be the odds on favorite to start as a true freshman. Like so many other Buckeye backs, you will have every opportunity to compete for the National Championship and Heisman trophy. When your career here at The Ohio State University is over, you will a very good shot at competing in the NFL and make millions of dollars for you and your family. If your football career does not work out however, there are very few (if any) college communities who take care of their family members like Columbus, Ohio does. There will be opportunities aplenty waiting for you when your playing days are over. You and yours will be taken care of. Best of luck with the rest of your high school games.

GO BUCKS!

In a testament to what he's accomplished during his career, Stewart went over the 7,000-yard mark, but was held to the shocking total -- for him -- of 94 yards on 18 carries by a Hawks defense that sold out to stop him.

"I could care less," he said of his first sub 100-yard performance since he was injured the second quarter of a loss to Clover Park in 2002.

"We're Pac-9 champs, city champs, and that's what matters. It's a team sport. It's not all about one person."

Love that attitude.

When you average 5.2 ypc despite the entire defense being focused entirely on stopping you, that's pretty damn good.

Has there been any mention as to wether Jonathan will be visiting in the near future? If he does come here during the season I think OSU's chances go up enormously. Imagine coming to OSU and shaking hands with Archie Griffin.

Stewart's first visit will be to WSU
Timberline senior begins his recruiting trips this weekend

ELLIOTT SMITH THE OLYMPIAN
Jonathan Stewart has a busy weekend ahead of him.
Today, the Timberline running back will travel with his team to Buckley, as the Blazers battle White River in a matchup of two of the top 10 3A football teams in the state.

Then, Saturday morning, Stewart and his mother will board a plane headed to Pullman, as he will make the first of his official college visits with a trip to Washington State.

"I'm pretty excited," Stewart said.

Stewart may run into a few familiar faces, as Timberline coach Kevin Young, along with a couple of his assistants and players, will also head over to see the Cougars take on the Trojans.

"Him and his mom are doing the official thing," Young said. "I'm sure we'll run into him, but we'll try to keep away from him and let him and his mother really experience it."

Stewart may not get to see the Cougars at their best. After all, Washington State is going against the No. 1 team in the nation with an inexperienced quarterback and a suddenly shaky defense.

But Stewart said it was OK if the Cougars lost.

"I'll be able to see how they react to it," he said. "But hopefully, they'll win. You never know."

This will be Stewart's first of five official trips. As of now, the only other one he has officially lined up is to Tennessee, which Stewart said he would take around Dec. 10.

Among the contenders for his final three visits are Southern Cal, Oregon, Ohio State and Notre Dame.

"Those are some of the schools in the running," he said. "I'm going to go through these visits, evaluate each one and then narrow it down."

Young said that right now, the plan is for Stewart to announce his college choice while at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio in January.

"If he still doesn't know, obviously he wouldn't announce it," Young said. "But if he knows earlier, he may say."

While college life looms, Stewart said he is still focused on his goals for the Blazers in the regular-season finale.

"I'm pumped up for it," he said of the game against the Hornets. "They're No. 10 in the state. We'll get to see how we fit against a competitor that's going to be in the playoffs."

wstripes do you think he's willing to leave the west coast, b/c I've heard conflicting reports. Someone who knows him personally says he's leaning toward staying home so his family can see him play, but then he's said in the past in interviews that distance doesn't matter, although he could be saying that just to keep his options open.

i gotta feeling this guy is nothing more than a pipe dream for osu.

he would be a great fit in our 'offense' and he has the reilgious thing going on with tressel but with all the distance and the family connections i am not getting my hopes up. obviously our best angle is immediate PT and i don't know if that is enough to get him 2/3 of the way across country.
when you have low expectations it is hard to be disappointed.
