Oregon creates custom comic books for recruits

Evan

I bleed Scarlet and Grey, all the way from England
(tried to find an existing thread this would fit into but nothing jumped out)

Oregon created a comic book for their top 20 recruits back in '05. SI published the full 16 page book made for Jonathan Stewart on their site. It's amazing the lengths teams are going to in order to snag recruits.

The comic book explains all the great things about Oregon intercut with the playing out of a fictional Nation Championship game in which Jonathan Stewart wins the game in the last seconds.

It's amazing enough that they actually created these things...and then I found this gem. One the 13th page the announcer says:

"The Oregon offense, led by running back Jonathan Stewart, has dominated the second half, bringing the Ducks within four points. With only two seconds left on the clock, Oregon is in the red zone and needs to find a way through this powerful ACC defense to walk away with the national title."

If Jonathan was smart he would have realized right then and there that nobody at Oregon knows anything about football and the only thing they got right was that the chances of Oregon being in the National Championship game are the same chances that there would be a team from the ACC there with a powerful defense.

It's kind of touching in a way.

Uniforms of "the ACC defense" are red, black and white, so I'm going to take a wild guess that this is supposed to be Maryland in one of those Nike vs Under Armor deals.

Ever notice that the "unnamed football team" that Friedgen coaches in the Under Armor commercials is wearing a red, black and white Maryland-ish uniform and winning over a team wearing green and yellow?

Yeah, it's no surprise....the guy who founded UA played football for the Twerps, after all.

I also like how Jonathan Stewart is so strong he's able to run around carrying the crystal football AND the stand!

Tidbits on Under Armour: Their corporation is based out of Baltimore, MD so that could be a reason for all the Twrep love. Maryland is making UA their sole sponsor for all athletic gear in 08. Also they list two Buckeyes as their spokesmen - AJ Hawk and Mike Vrabel.
