Oregon coach Mike Bellotti had a lot to be happy about Oct. 13. But an injury cloud hung over his team after the Ducks blasted Washington State 53-7.
A season that began almost injury-free for Oregon continued to turn sour, with Bellotti losing two key offensive players -- wide receiver Cameron Colvin and running back Jeremiah Johnson. Colvin is out for the season with an ankle injury, while Johnson's status was unclear after he suffered a knee injury.
Colvin, a senior who has had an up-and-down career in Eugene, had replaced Brian Paysiner, already gone for the year.
"Our depth will be tested," Bellotti said after his team cleared the 50-point mark for the second time in the last three weeks and rebounded from a heartbreaking loss at California the previous week. "But I have confidence that we will still be able to do the things that we want to do."
Colvin, of course, is the young man whose fumble near the goal line sealed the loss to Cal. After that game, he warned, "I feel bad" for the next team on the Oregon schedule.
He turned out to be right. But he also turned out to be hurt. So, he won't be part of the rest of the season.
"There's not anything I have issues with right now," Bellotti, now 12-0 after byes as a head coach, said after another strong day by Dennis Dixon keyed the rout of Washington State.
The victory lifted the Ducks to the No. 7 spot in the latest AP poll. Oregon goes on the road to play Washington this week and then hosts USC. The season is just getting interesting.

That and June Jones would thankfully STFU.daveeb;963276; said:I'd love to see the Huskies run the table and finish 9-4, culminating in a win at Hawaii.
