It's funny 'cause it's true... but then, I've done a fair amount of construction work in sequined gowns... remind me to tell you about building the batmobile sometime. :p
Dad gave me his old Craftsman tools so he would "need" to get new ones... more than enough for apartment living.

hmmm.. that's a heckuva present.. since most Craftsmen tools are lifetime replacement.. you can take most of that back to the store and they'll give you a brand new replacement for nada...
that's a really good Dad !!! cuz I did the exact same thing to my oldest in his Ohio house...

What you will run into with the cheaper drills is that the inner gears are plastic. The more expensive (Porter Cable, and DeWalt) are metal gears, also the warranty is better with the better tools. I am not a DeWalt guy, and own nothing from them, but as far as PC they have always done me right. They have replaced tools for me when I needed, and there is a local repair shop on Inianola for warranty/non warranty repairs, but you won't touch either with any balls/volts with a benny to spend.
I bought this one http://www.porter-cable.com/index.asp?e=547&p=2706 (19.2 circular saw, Drill combo) about 4 years ago for 280 something from Lowe's, and an extra battery I got lucky and found on clearance for $50 or so. It is sorta heavy but the only time I find it a problem is hanging ceiling drywall or just working above my head.
BTW all you who scoff at a cordless circsaw, I never thought I would use it either, but it is a godsend for all those one cut circumstances, just for not having to run a damn extension cord and get everything out for the power circsaw.

I completely disagree. Their hand tools are ok, but that's only because they'll replace them if you break them. Their power tools are junk though. And as for their lawn mowers, they are complete shit. I bought a Craftsman mower when we bought our house and had to replace the wheels within a year. I have to use a bungee cord to hold the bag on or it falls off after 20' of mowing. The mower is like 5 years old and the self-propelled transmission is starting to deteriorate. The only good thing about it is the engine; and that's a Honda! I will never, ever buy another Craftsman mower.
