How far did he get before realizing she wasn't in the car?

The question I always have is:

How far away does a girl have to be before its ok not to hold the door open? i say 30 feet. At 30 feet, you just walk in the door and forget about anyone behin you.

If you let it go, you definitely have to act quickly. If you pause at all, and look back at the girl, and still let it shut, then that is just as bad as slamming it in her face. I say if the door has enough time to shut on its own, and then at least a 3 second pause, then that's enough time.


But yeah, I usually go for the reach and hold method. It also give you a chance to prove your masculinity by using the tiny muscles in your forearm to open the entire door and hold it without blinking. And maybe flex your biceps, if you have a shortsleeve/sleeveless shirt, as she walks by .

The "test" is great, it's actually one of my favorite things my girlfriend does. I open her door everytime and she leans across and opens mine when she gets in.... now that's proper.

That used to be a favorite test of mine, but power locks and keyless entry have put an end to that. Now I have to actually listen to her to find out if she's a worthless bitch. :)
