Online Checking Account

my coworker was just telling me about one he uses. i can't recall the name, but he says it pays very close to what a 3 month treasury would and he can easily transfer money from his normal bank to his online bank. the subject came up when i was bitching about not getting interest on my checking account.

I only go in to a branch for my bank to deposit my checks. Pretty much any banking services I use otherwise are online. Secret is to check every day just to keep a monitor on it. I use Wells Fargo. They offer all manner of nice banking services purely online.

Depends on what you mean, most banks now have online checking, but like Etrade is now offering online checking with a pretty nice interest rate. The only thing I am curious about is where/how to deposit your checks with something like that.

Why don't you direct deposit your checks?

My company doesn't offer direct deposit. I was actually pretty peeved about it when I started working here because Wells Fargo waives the checking account fee if you direct deposit.

I use mine all the time because of this reason. I use online banking to pay da bills also.

I pay some of my bills thru my bank's bill pay service as well. I can transfer money from any of my three accounts to the other pretty easily that way too.

I'm looking for info on the online only checking accounts that will give you interest.

Does ING have a branch or is it just online?
To quote ING Direct
ING DIRECT (the operating name of ING Bank, fsb) is headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware with innovative ING DIRECT Caf?s in Wilmington, Philadelphia, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles where you can experience what Orange is all about!
One other thought - you can get the benefits of ING Direct, plus more at CapitalOne's direct competition the High Yield Account (5.00% APY).

Unlike ING these are not tiered. The 4.88% (5.00 APY) applies regardless of balance.

The added benefits are shown here. (Small flash presentation in middle of page).
