Amazing Ohio State Statistics

UPDATED AS OCT. 31, 2006

I'm a big time statistics fanatic so I came up with some awesome statistics that I would like to share with the rest of Buckeye Nation. I will be updating this post as the season goes on to add new interesting statistics.

Bend, But Don't Break Defense

After 9 games against several decent offensive teams, Ohio State may not be #1 in total defense, but this statistic is amazing.

Ohio State is currently allowing 335.57 offensive yards per allowed TD (7). That's nearly going almost the whole field 3.5 times before scoring a TD.

LSU is #1 in total defense, but only allowing 241.85 offensive yards per allowed TD (7).

The worst "bend, but don't break defense" goes to Louisiana Tech who allows only 84.34 yards per allowed TD (44).

Offensive Yards Per Turnover

A creative statistic which can show how efficient Ohio State's offense is.

Ohio State is currently averaging 418.3 offensive yards per turnover (9).

Currently worst efficient offense goes to Louisiana Tech, which is averaging 80.1 offensive yards per turnover (22).

Passing Yards Per Interception

This plays a huge role in Ohio State's success on offense.

Ohio State is averaging 1,069 passing yards per interception (2).

The worst team for this goes to North Texas which is averaging 70 passing yards per inteception (11).

If there are another statistics fanatics, please come and join in with some creative stats to show some good points about Ohio State's performance or any other teams' performance. I especially love those "out of whack" stats.

Great source of statistics for this year (and they have archived statistics to several years back as well): http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2006&div=4&site=org

Wow that's something you won't see on College Gameday unless Corso is trying to be off the wall.

Those defensive stats are very interesting. Without looking, I wonder what the number of yards allowed by the defense per turnover created is?

What else is crazy is DBB's DSA that shows how much below our opponents' average offense our defense holds them to. I believe Texas is #2 in the nation in scoring with atleast 40+ points per game. We held them to 7. Pretty f'in good.

Another way to look at that is that OSU has held 6 of its 7 opponents to their lowest point total of the season. The only exception being BG who scored 3 against Kent St.

By contrast, Michigan can say the same for only 3 of their 7 foes, including of course neither of our common opponents.

thats the statistic that i pay the most attention to on defense. how consistent is a team in holding an opposing team below their averages? that tells you what your dealing with more than anything imo.

UPDATED OF AS TODAY

All stats in red are updated.

Some of them are just amazingly great for Ohio State. I really hope Ohio State can blow out Michigan badly. Hell, at least, beat them for 3rd year straight with Troy Smith and I'll take that.
