Would hate to see him go but he’s been playing now for 10 years, his body has been through hell (And that’s not counting his collegiate career).

Offensive lineman Taylor Decker, the Lions' longest-tenured player, has requested his release from Detroit, he announced on social media Friday.The move comes about two weeks after he announced he would return to the NFL for an 11th NFL season.
"I fully intended to do it once again, but my time as a Lion is coming to an end," Decker wrote on Instagram. "In the weeks since notifying the team of my return there have been numerous discussions. Many of which were a surprise to me, and we could not find a common ground. Therefore I decided to request my release."

It sounds like he has been through hell trying to stay on the field. When you are playing in such pain, after more than two decades of football, it is really time to think very hard about the effects of continued play somewhere else on your health.

Too soon old, too late smart
Well, there's taxes, rep commission, and you know, $5 million just doesn't go as far these days.....but yeah, putting away $1 million a year, would yield $10 million (w/o compounding), and that might provide a comfortable living just on its own. And no, don't know what kind of retirement plan the NFL gives. Maybe they match a 401k?
