Ohio State tight end Reid Fragel tweeted yesterday that he has been released from the hospital after being diagnosed with a MRSA staph infection in his leg.
Citing federal privacy rules, Ohio State officials would not confirm Fragel's condition.
Fragel tweeted Tuesday night that he was headed to the emergency room. He said he had a tetanus shot early yesterday and was released, and that he expected to be ready to get back to work in one week.

Fragel Looking Good
One other player who was in question for Sunday?s report date was tight end Reid Fragel. The 6-8 junior out of Grosse Pointe, Mich. was recently hospitalized for a staph infection (Staphylococcus aureus) in his knee, but showed no lingering effects when he arrived at the hotel.
The backup tight end to starter Jake Stoneburner was walking around fine and an OSU spokesperson said he expects Fragel to be ready for the start of fall camp in Monday. He was even displaying a new look Sunday with a Mohawk and beard.
Meet a Buckeye: TE Reid Fragel
Thursday September 15, 2011

Fragel is the ?other? tight end who sees a lot of playing time for the Buckeyes. While Jake Stoneburner gets the glory as a pass-catcher ? he has four TD catches already ? Fragel is content to do much of the grunt work as a blocking tight end, though he is capable of catching passes as well. This weekend, he?s looking forward to a mini family reunion when the Buckeyes play at Miami.
Q: I hear your sister is on the crew team for the University of Miami?
A: My sister, Maggie, is a rower down at Miami. I talked to her the other day. She was saying she was kind of getting stuff from some of the guys on the team, saying she better be rooting for them. She told them she?s rooting for family, which is good. I told if she didn?t, I wouldn?t talk to her for a while.
Q: I know crew is a tough sport. How does it compare with football?
A: (Practice) is a lot earlier. I remember in high school she would wake up at ungodly hours, about 4 in the morning, and go to rowing practice. She?d come back and go to school right after that. I?d see her hands and there?d be blisters all over and calluses and what-not. It?s a pretty brutal sport.

Almost a Spartan, Ohio State's Fragel eager to play Michigan State
By GEORGE SIPPLE - Detroit Free Press
Reid Fragel has been waiting for Michigan State to play Ohio State in football ever since he sat in an MSU parking lot and decided to play tight end for the Buckeyes.
The Spartans (3-1) visit Ohio State (3-1) at 3:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday.
Fragel made the Detroit Free Press Dream Team as a senior at Grosse Pointe South in 2008 and was deciding where he wanted to play college football.
"It was down to coming to Michigan State or Ohio State," Fragel said. "It is one of those games I've been looking forward to playing in ever since I came to Ohio State."
The schools did not play each other the past two seasons.
Mark Fragel, Reid's father, remembers when his son told him he wanted to play for the Buckeyes. Reid had visited both schools and had gone back to MSU to meet with the coaching staff one last time.
"We were in the parking lot and (Mark) Dantonio and (Dan) Enos walked us all the way to our car," Mark said. "The door shut and Reid put his head back and took a deep breath and said, 'Well, Dad, I know where I'm going to school.' I said, 'Well, I'm anxious to hear.' And he said, 'I'm going to Ohio State.' "
Reid Fragel played in all 13 games as a true freshman at Ohio State in 2009, mostly on special teams. He played in all 13 games last season as a sophomore and had nine catches for 121 yards and one touchdown. His 42-yard catch led to a touchdown in Ohio State's 31-26 win over Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl.
MSU offensive line coach Mark Staten remembers recruiting Fragel. Staten was then MSU's tight ends coach and had some history with the Fragels. Reid Fragel's brother, Mark, had played for Staten at Miami (Ohio).
"I just remember a tremendous toughness," Staten said of Reid Fragel. "He doesn't mind blocking. He doesn't mind catching passes. He comes from good people. I just remember an outstanding young person.
"We're going to have our hands full on the defensive side of the ball."
Mark Fragel said Staten was a big reason his son considered MSU.
"He truly is a great guy," Mark Fragel said of Staten. "I think he's got a hell of a future ahead of him.
"Reid made his choice. He's at Ohio State, doesn't regret it and loves it."
